Re: wearing white to someone's wedding opinions please!

Here is a story for you...
My sister hates shopping for clothes, and has worn all black all of the time for the past 8 years of her life. I asked her to be in the wedding, and she said no b/c she didn't want to feel obligated to wear the dress (which was going to be black anyway!). Okay, I understand she is crazy, but I got over it. She recently went shopping for a dress to wear to the wedding, and what color does she get? An all white/cream colored dress!!! HA HA HA HA.. she is just clueless. The woman has worn black for 8 years, and this is the only dress she can find? She has no idea. I just can't be mad though, she really doesn't know/understand.

I would NEVER wear a all white dress, or a dress that is a shade of white, to a wedding. Blue with white polka dots, or white with large flowers or some other print covering the dress...okay, no no problem. I think it shows a level of unawareness and it is not nice to take the attendtion away from the bride.

That being said, I could never be mad if someone wore white (AKA my sis) to my wedding because I know that some people are just not aware of the ettequite and don't understand how it may effect the bride.

I think its a matter of respect for the bride. You don't wear white! I mean you really couldn't find something in another color! I needed to find a white dress for my RD and it wasn't easy!

ITA!!!!!!!!!! its not easy to find a flattering white dress so serisoully its like if someone wear's white they are doing it on purpose.. honestly, after all the money that Im shelling out for this reception, if somene wears white I will be so mad.. I know poeple wont be paying her more attention than me, but its a respect issue..

I wouldn't care but I definitely would not do it, that's the bride's color.

Re: wearing white to someone's wedding opinions please!

Personally I think you should not wear white to a wedding.

I just cant believe your friend did it.

I also think that there are people who JUST don't know this piece of etiquette. But stil.....

Re: wearing white to someone's wedding opinions please!

I just think it's inconsiderate. Everyone knows the bride should be the only woman in white! While every bride is different, and some would care more than others, I'd just steer clear of that faux pas in any situation.

I think women should save their white dresses for summer parties...not summer weddings!

Re: wearing white to someone's wedding opinions please!

I don't know how much I'd care.. As long as it is a cocktail dress and not a floor length gown I don't think it would bother me if someone wore white. If anything, that person is opening themselves up to TONS of scrutiny because I know my friends and family would have done nothing but talk about the girl who wore white to my wedding...

That being said, I would NEVER personally wear white to someone else's wedding.

Re: wearing white to someone's wedding opinions please!

The only reason someone would wear white is to give a big FU to the bride. Intentionally. I don't buy the excuse that some people just don't get it...they get it, and they get it all too well.

Someone wore a short white dress to my sister's wedding, and I went over to my sister and asked her if she would like me to kick her azz for her in the middle of the floor. She just kind of rolled her eyes and was like I think it's silver, but ehh, that's just so and so, like it was accepted behavior!

I would be really mad. There are tons of other colors - no one should be wearing white except the bride and flower girl.

Yeah, I totally agree.. I'd be sorta weirded out even if someone wore white to my wedding!

Re: wearing white to someone's wedding opinions please!

I wouldn't care if someone wore white to my wedding (unless it was a white or Ivory ball gown, lol), I would just think it was in really poor taste and I would NEVER wear white or ivory to someone elses wedding.

I went to a wedding a couple of years ago and the MOTHER OF THE BRIDE was in this white puffy dress as she and her husband walked my friend the bride down the aisle who also was wearing a white puffy dress. I honestly was horrified.....

Re: wearing white to someone's wedding opinions please!

Sorry to crash but my aunt who is in her early 70s wore full on white to my wedding. Her i didn't mind because well she is just weird and doesn't think about things like that. However, DH's brother's gf wore a buttercream (very light yellow) to the wedding, more like an ivory and in ever pic it looks white. And she wore a floor length gown. On my wedding day nothing bothered me but funy enough, so many people asked me who that girl was who wore white to my wedding. Honestly, no one is going to confuse anyone else for the bride but it's just in poor taste. There are so many colors out there. I dont mind a white dress with another color but a floor-length white gown is a bit much.
