Since I have been engaged and planning our wedding, I love reading who got engaged and when and who got married and when and where.
If your parents want to do for you, do it if it doesn't bother you.

We put our announcement in my hometown papers (Citizen News and Danbury News Times), and we're planning to put it in Merrick Life as well (where Adam grew up).
Each paper is different, contact their offices for information.

It is free to announce your wedding in Newsday. They accept forms from 30 days before the wedding until 30 days after. Here's the info:
Obtain a wedding announcement form from Newsday by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Weddings, Long Island Desk, 235 Pinelawn Rd., Melville, NY 11747-4250 or by stopping by the South Entrance of Newsday. Deadline: 3 weeks in advance to be published the Sunday after the wedding. Phone: 631-843-3567

i got onto the ny times. It was a lot of fun!My mother brought down copies for everyone to read at the brunch the next morning. It was cool to read about your event the night before and makes a fun discussion. Just give it a try!!

We were in last Sunday's newsday- But I believe it is ok until 60 days after your wedding.

My FH and I did that, well actually my mom did announcing our engagement and put a picture of us too in our herald.
