My mom wants me to send out wedding announcements to a lot of relatives that we don't plan to invite but still want to receive news of our nuptials..
my question is - where do i go for these? and what sample language do I use? when do i send them out? after the wedding or before? how long before?
I have relatives in other countries and we realistically can not invite them because they dont have the means for travel (my grandmother has health issues, my aunts and uncles dont have VISAS or passports) so I am completely in the dark on how to 'announce' my wedding date w/o making it come off like I am inviting them...how should I do this? help?

Re: Wedding Announcements/Invitations
Personally I would not send an announcement if you do not plan to send an invite. One way to handle it is to simply send an invite...It gives them the news and if by some chance they are able to travel to celebrate with you then they can join you. This is how I handled OOT and elderly guests that I wanted to share the news with but knew would be unable to make it...and b/c of it my 94 year old great aunt (my great grandmother's sister) decided to join us!! It was an unexpected surprise.

Re: Wedding Announcements/Invitations
I agree send the invite this way they know you would love for them to be there but let them make the choice if they can/cant attend...
here are some wordings you can do if you choose to do announcements..
•(Bride) and (Groom) are extremely pleased to announce their wedding on (wedding date) at (wedding location). •We, (Bride) and (Groom), announce our marriage on (wedding date) at (wedding location). Our new address is (new address). •(Bride's parents) announce the marriage of their daughter (Bride) to (Groom) on (wedding date) at (wedding location). •(Groom's parents) are pleased to announce the marriage of their son (Groom) to (Bride) on (wedding date) at (wedding location). •(Bride) and (Groom) are happy to announce that they are now Mr. and Mrs. (last name) after they exchanged vows on (wedding date) at (wedding location).

I agree with the other girls - I wouldn't send an announcement unless you plan to invite them. If you're not inviting them simply b/c you don't think they can feasibly make it, you can invite them anyway and might be pleasantly surprised!

Re: Wedding Announcements/Invitations
The announcements are proper to send to people you don't invite. An announcement does not come with the obligation of a gift.
The announcements should be mailed out the day of/after the wedding.
The wording is as follows
Mr. and Mrs. John Smith have the honour of announcing of the marriage of their daughter Amy Sue to Mr. Alexander Scott Jones Saturday, the 10th of September Two thousand and ten Hicksville, New York

Re: Wedding Announcements/Invitations
Thanks for the suggestions!! thing is, I don't want them at my wedding . a lot of these relatives are people I never even met (w/ the exception of my grandmother who I am somewhat close to)...We have relatives in Florida on my dad's side who I simply can't stand (they are the type of relatives who only call us when they need $$ but care less about inviting us to their weddings or major events). However my mom wants me to send the announcement just so they are aware that I am getting married.
Its a touchy subject but this is why I don't want to invite them - I am leaning toward just sending an announcement AFTER the wedding...but my mom can be a tough person to deal with on this issue...

This is the proper etiquette- sending them out AFTER

I hear ya on this. However, if your mom wants to send it out, let her send it out. It doesn't have to come from you directly. Check out the wording in PP.... its appropriate if the parents send it. You shouldn't feel bad about this. I think you should only invite people who are genuinely happy for you both. I don't think you have to invite anyone out of obligation. jmo

Re: Wedding Announcements/Invitations
You don't announce that a wedding is going to take place -- you announce that it has.
Therefore, you send out wedding announcements after the wedding.
Unless your parents are that excited that you got engaged that they want to announce your engagement... but doing so would be akin to sending out STDs and the relatives may just show up since you've now told them where and when to.
Just tell your mom to be patient or to get ready for major drama or to pony up the money for all those relatives they don't want there.

Yeah, I agree. Send an invite. If you want to send an announcement, you send it AFTER the wedding.
