WEdding Attire???

DUMB QUESTION AGAIN!! I would LOVE black tie, but FI one request is no black tie.. He of course will be in a tux, but feels it's too much to ask people to rent a tux.. Anyway, besides that... What other options are there. Casual sounds too casual.. Is there a nicer way to put it. or what's in between casual and Black tie??? thanks

why don't you just put 'black tie optional' on the invitations - that way, those who want to rent a tux will and those who don't or won't will know it's more formal - I think most people know (esp on LI) that weddings here are more on the dressy side- men will wear suits and women nice dresses.

I don't know, I didn't put anything on my invites as far as attire and everyone came pretty dressed up - no tuxes, but very nicely. I know some people lately have been saying that they did have some people come dressed very casually, but I didn't have that problem.

Re: WEdding Attire???

we were just discussing it as well. we don't want a black tie affair for all guests (although all men in the wedding & immed. family will be wearing tuxes).

We decided to just omit any reference to attire, and we figure (we hope not too generously) that everyone will dress up.

We have an afternoon reception in early June, and we have some friends that may own tuxes, but if they wore a nice suit we'd be just as happy.

Any other thoughts are appreciated :) Good question tho.

So Pickle, I can't come in my Daisy Duke's and a tee shirt?!

I think if you are having a night wedding, people know to come dressed up, ladies in nice dresses, guys in suits. Maybe you can just casually spread the word verbally through close friends and family, that it an affair to get dressed for.

I don't want to make a reference to attire on the invitation, so I'm having FI spread the word among his relatives - they are all from Montana and have never stepped foot in NY in their entire lives and don't realize that putting on your 'nice' jeans does not qualify you as getting dressed up!

Re: WEdding Attire???

you could always go with the terminology 'festive attire suggested' - a little more casual than BTO...

I second the use of 'black tie optional'. I have never seen anything other than that or just 'black tie'. Otherwise I wouldn't specify.
