I personally like a Dj better not really sure why but I do!! I remember seeing one time a band that played with a DJ so you get both maybe you can look into that

I am getting a DJ with a percussionist... So you hear the real songs but it gives it that something extra to make it feel like its a band

Re: wedding band instead of a dj
I'm having a band, although I've been to several weddings that had djs that were great! It's really just a personal preference, and I think live music was better choice for us. It's a tough decision.
Good Luck!

If its in your budget, go for it, but it is wayyyyyy more expensive than a dj!

if you can afford a good one, like Paris, you will be happier than with a DJ. Personally I loved them at my friend's wedding but I can't afford them. i wish I could have them though.
a band is way more expensive but I am going to have one because I just feel that it is a classier touch for a wedding. I think sweet sixteen when I see a dj. I mean no direspect because I have been to great wedding featuring djs...its just not for me....

I'm using Paris! I highly recommend them, if you're going the band route.

Nothing at all against bands, but I personally prefer a DJ. I just feel you can get a wider range of music, not to mention the price difference is huge. And don't forget with a DJ you have to feed one maybe two people whereas with a band you have to feed at least four. It definitely is a preference and depends on your budget.

Re: wedding band instead of a dj
i booked a band that also has a DJ (Absolute Entertainment with the Seventies Experience). I feel more comfortable hving the DJ there because they are in charge of all of the announcements. The bands are definitely more expensive but FH and I both wanted a live band hands down. I'm more excited about the band than anything else!

If you can afford a band I would go for it. We ended up having a band and we are so happy we did so. They really made our wedding. At first DH was totally against a band. He didn't see the need for the extra expense plus he said he wanted to hear music by the actual artists. Well, he totally changed his mind after I dragged him to a showcase for The Times Square Orchestra. We booked them on the spot and they were amazing!

I prefer a Dj too!!! I think a Dj gets the crowd moving better! Plus they are allot cheaper then hiring a band. A band at a wedding reminds me of the movie..The Wedding Singer!..LOL

I have to disagree about the wedding singer image. Some of the LI bands are crazy talented and it's like being at a live concert. My DH wanted a DJ until he heard some of the LI bands, he changed his mind real quick. Our band made the wedding, we had to go overtime. I have been to parties were the DJ could just not capture the crowd and was very dull. DJ or band, the bottom line is the experience of the bandleader or DJ calling the tunes.

don't a lot of halls include or discount vendor meals? we're getting all of our vendor meals 1/2 off unless they are a house-recommended vendor -- then they are free!
our band (7 people?) is free to feed, as is our photo/video (i think). i dont think you have to feed florist... so not sure what vendors are left..
