Has anyone ever heard of a wedding blessing. My DJ gave me a form to fill out and right before bestman's toast is says 'Blessing By :______' I guess it's not something that we have to do but just curious about it. Can the blessing be done by anyone or does it have to be a clergy member?? TIA

My best friend had this done after they were introduced at the reception. Her uncle gave the blessing (he was a pastor - just passed away last year). But you don't have to do it.

My sister and her husband did this last year - her husband gave the blessing, it was a really nice moment :)

I know in traditional Irish ceremonies, you usually invite the priest that married you and he gives a blessing. It's like a prayer for God to look over you and to wish you a happy marriage!

At my cousins wedding a few weeks ago the father of the bride said a blessing before dinner. It was half in Korean, so I don't know what was said, but the English part was similar to saying Grace before you eat.

YES...I think it comes from an African American tradition where couples have a blessing at their reception. I've seen it done and probably having one. This is usually done by someone that is close to the couple, or a relative, it doesn't have to be the minister, and it's kind of like the blessing at dinner time but more elaborate, detailed and of course blessing of the couple!

Well thanks a bunch ladies. Now that I think about it, I guess it's like the speech that the priest did at the last wedding we went to way {DuHhhh} Well if that's so then I'll skip the blessing. I remember sitting there and the guys were all like 2 year olds because his speech/blessing went on & on & on and no one could get a drink until he finished. Maybe I'll have my daughter give the blessing like she does in pre-shcool, 'God is great, God is good let's us thank him for our food, Amen' LOL
