Re: Wedding budget? (POLL)

biggest mistake of all u just made. dont walk in there telling them u want EVERYTHING.

rule #1. do not wear your ering. TRUST ME. i had a lady at crest hollow (there i said it) greet me by GRABBING my hand to look at my ring. BIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGG MISTAKE.

rule #2 do NOT walk in there sweating the vendor. do not act giddy . make them WANT YOUR BUSINESS. YOU should ALWAYS be in control. especially with the economy today, they should be begging for your business. afterall, they work for YOU..u dont work for them.

rule # 3... make the vendors write EVERYTHING down on THEIR letterhead. anyyyytime they cross anything out, especially price, make them initial it. they may call u crazy, laugh, shake their heads.. but PLEASE PLEASEEE trust me.. from personal experience..every quote should be wriiten and initialled by the vendor. def more than 1 place. and any agreements u make, must neverrrrrrrrrrrr be done VERBALLY!

ETA: i sound harsh..but ive been thru hell and back with this wedding planning. a lot of which i dont wish to write about on this site. tears, screaming, door slamming. be smart about it. this is a very happy time in our lives and sometimes we get caught up and forget to act serious.. cuz afterall.. this is a HUUUUUUGE BUSINESS. no1 is your bff, i dont care how friendly and down to earth vendors are. in the end, they are there to make money.

I TOTALLY AGREE, there will always be one person who will have some stupid comment to make about your wedding. You don't need to spend a lot to have a nice wedding; you just need to know how to budget and where to cut costs,.

Our wedding budget went up and up and up and now we've said 'ok that's enough' So there are things we are cutting out that we originally wanted and there are things we 'splurged on' in the beginning that are written in the contract so we gotta keep them. In the beginning we were like whats another $500 but after a while it really adds up!!! (We are well overbudget)

I keep reminding my self now...'if the guests didn't know it was an option then they won't miss it' All the extra stuff for weddings sounds great... but do u really need/want it?

ours is going to end up being like 55k

Re: Wedding budget? (POLL)

I clicked the 21-30K, but mine is going to be at the lower end of that spectrum. We don't have a particular number set in stone, and our parents are helping out, but when all is said and done, I'm thinking around 22-23K.

Re: Wedding budget? (POLL)

We orignally watned to stay under 20k...But the price of the hall alone was a little bit short of our budget, so we had to redo that...At this point after everything is booked we are at 50k. I am currently trying to figure out how to do everything else (besides the vendors, since they are alreay booked and we got good deals) for cheaper than what it could cost us normally...It's hard trying to keep budget down bc once someone hear's 'wedding' the price is jacked up a huge %...

I click 51K++++ because as we are now I believe we are over that!

Re: Wedding budget? (POLL)

I'm estimating $51+, but that is only my estimate when I figured out a budget. I am hoping that we're going to be able to keep it UNDER $50k-- which I think may be doable.

We have a separate 'wedding fund', so I included things like BP gifts in the budget, but I think we're going to wind up paying for those out of pocket. Plus, I wanted to splurge on the RH (although we did negotiate with them)-- but with other vendors I'm going to be looking to cut more corners. Ie: We're at the point where we are considering having NO flowers except maybe for my bouquet and a throwaway bouqet.

Probably some of the best words of wisdom I've read on thsi site! It's all very true. Especially the 3rd one- always get everything in writing- including the exact room, time, all costs, etc.

Re: Wedding budget? (POLL)

Our RH is $31,000 if we stick to the 200 minimum. The vendors were another $20k. So, I will be well over $51k with rings, rehearsal dinner, all the extra stuff etc. It's kind of sick when you think about it. It's practically some people's salary spent in one day!

my parents are paying for the RH and we're paying everything else...
our budget is 20K...
so far we got 15K to go and that needs to cover
flowers
dj
limo
rings
invites
favors
etc etc etc

I'm one who clicked $51++++ cause yes we are a little over and initially before we ever even started the planning we said our budget would be $30k HA! That one went way out the window

Re: Wedding budget? (POLL)

my budget is $16,000 and I have worked really really hard to get what I want and stay in budget. I have two photograhers, I'm getting 3-5 edited videos, I love my hall, I'm having an evening wedding, my favorite month of the year happens to be November so that is when my wedding is, I've got the dress of my dreams, beautiful mantilla veil, peacock feather designs, flowers that i love, custom made invitations, dj and mc with intelligent lighting, pretty much everything! I did cut some stuff out like limos because I am getting married at the RH so I don't really need them and I wanted to spend the money elsewhere. It's been a lot of researching but it has been worth it.
