wedding budgeting - what is realistic and ideas needed for receptions
Original post by stiggles
I just typed this whole long post and it erased!
The basic premise was..
what is the realistic cost for a wedding in the ny/nj area?
I feel like a criminal because I do not want to pay more than $100 a person for catering for 150 people and no more than 25-28k for the wedding.
Am I completely kidding myself?
I still havent figured out where I am coming up with the $30k yet, but thats a different worry...
Is it worth all that debt?
My fiance wanted to go away, but something has stopped me from saying yes...I want to wear the gown down the aisle....
if anyone can help with realistic budgets, what photographers, limos. etc cost I would greatly appreciate it.
If you know someplace nice in the ny/nj region actually in my price range, please let me know..its looking like its white castle for us for less than $100.
My fiance and I have been engaged for 5 months, we need to settle this wedding issue before I kill him ;) ( don't laugh but he wanted 500 people originally)
Thanks for the help!!!

You don't have to go into debt to have a wedding. Have a wedding that you know you can save for, (as far as salaries, bonuses, etc.). Don't overreach yourself. Use cash for ALL deposits, and little things. Set up a payment plan with your hall, and give them a chunk of $ every month or so. So that the last payment it's not soooo overwhelming. If worse comes to worse, you can charge last minute things, and then pay it off as soon as you get $ from your wedding. WEDDINGS SHOULD NOT PUT YOU IN DEBT! And if you already have debt, I suggest paying that off, before even thinking about saving for a wedding. It's so much pressure, but all worth it in the end. It's do able

I have to agree with RVCBride...in my opinion, a wedding is only 5 hours & not worth going into debt for....I would rather take some of the money & put it towards a place to live & our future life together....With that said, we are having a Friday night wedding in 06 & we have a budget of $30,000. We are having 165 people! We are sticking to that & do not see any problems with no making that....You have to cut costs...For me, I am not spending tons of money on invitations just because I feel that people keep them til that day & then they throw them away (this is my opinion though)....We are most likely doing a DJ to cut costs....The one thing I did spend $$ on was my photo & video bc I feel that is something to have for the rest of my life....Think what is more important to you & cut costs, but it is definately doable!
