Wedding Cake!

Wedding Cake!

I went to a nice bakery, cake was nice, not the best, but nice, people where nice, all nice, just nice, till she said '12 dollars per person'

Since when does a pound of butter coated in sugar cost 12 bucks?!?!?

Am I crazy to think its way too much for a simple cake?

What are you guys paying?

Flowerfields includes the cake so I don't know for sure but that sounds a bit much to me!

That is crazy!

FH and I went to Dortoni's in Levittown, which I have heard only raves about, and they were only going to charge about $3-4 for a relatively simple cake.

Dude, do you realize that's what people pay (more or less) per head for a full viennese hour? Is it made out of gold?

Re: Wedding Cake!

I'm having 135 guests at my wedding and was quoted $745 for a nice fairly simple cake design. I decided that was too much and will just take the cake that's included from my reception hall. I thought that was a lot.... but $12 per person is nutso!!!

No, that is too much! $3-$4 is average. Unless it is like 7 layers covered in fondant and hand painted!!!!! That would have to be one heeluva intricate cake to be $12 pp!!! Was Colette Peters?!?!?!

Re: Wedding Cake!

that's a lot! we are paying less than that pp for full viennesse!!!

We are using the cake from our hall because we thought it silly to pay extra for a cake when we are doing viennesse, plus I heard our hall's cake tastes good even if it's not super fancy.

Re: Wedding Cake!

i know that the cost of flour went way up-but 12 bucks still seems like a lot. our cake was included with the reception

Re: Wedding Cake!

We were just talking about that on 08 boards. Some bakers do charge $10-$12 per slice if its a very detailed full fondant design. Butter cream can range $2's - $5 per slice depending on fillings, design, size. I had cake quotes come in over 1K. I kept calling and pricing around.

Don't forget you can have a smaller main cake made and 'kitchen' cakes (sheet cakes) that can be served and are much less expensive. For example you are having 150 guests. You can have your main cake made to serve 100 and a sheet cake made to serve the remainder. If its decorated the same your guests will never know they didn't get a peice of the actual 'cake'. Just a small way to save some $$

That is a lot per person for a slice of cake!

You might as well forgo the cake and just get the VH!!
Russo's includes the cake so I have no idea how much per person it's costing- all I know is it looks good and probably tastes YUMMY!!!

Re: Wedding Cake!
