Wedding Cake!

Original post by yswedding

I went to a nice bakery, cake was nice, not the best, but nice, people where nice, all nice, just nice, till she said '12 dollars per person'

Since when does a pound of butter coated in sugar cost 12 bucks?!?!?

Am I crazy to think its way too much for a simple cake?

What are you guys paying?

Dude, do you realize that's what people pay (more or less) per head for a full Viennese hour? Is it made out of gold?

Yeah that is way to much. Not sure how much it cost mine is included.

Wow that is a lot for an okay cake!!!

My cake is about $5 a person or so. Im using Cakes By Jay. His cakes are beautiful!!!

OMG I want to use him so bad I think I might look into an upgrade. I just met him last week at the WCC showcase he had sample cake out and it was the best cake I ever ate. If we can't do the upgrade I am going to use him for the grooms cake at the rehearsal dinner.

Wild thing is they gave me a price of only 10 bucks a head to cater the full Viennese hour. Relatively it sounded like such a great deal I almost went for it!

We were just talking about that on 08 boards. Some bakers do charge $10-$12 per slice if its a very detailed full fondant design. Butter cream can range $2's - $5 per slice depending on fillings, design, size. I had cake quotes come in over 1K. I kept calling and pricing around.

Don't forget you can have a smaller main cake made and 'kitchen' cakes (sheet cakes) that can be served and are much less expensive. For example you are having 150 guests. You can have your main cake made to serve 100 and a sheet cake made to serve the remainder. If its decorated the same your guests will never know they didn't get a peice of the actual 'cake'. Just a small way to save some $$

Yep she is right-depends on how ornate the design is. BUT remember fresh flowers from your florist are a BEAUTIFUL and CHEAP way to decorate a cake thats relatively simple. People always comment to me about how pretty our cake was and seriously it was the SIMPLEST design the RH offered (cue cheapest) BUT the bright flowers make it seem fancier than it is.

Hmmm....I really don't LIKE cake. I took the one that came for 'free' from my reception hall.

You could even skip cake & serve plated dessert...I don' t think ppl would even notice.
