Wedding cakes......

My wedding is at the Watermill on April 20th. They have 4 free cakes to choose from and 3 cakes which cost $250 each. I really love one of the $250 cakes, but I think it's crazy to spend that kind of money. I don't know what to do. Help! Lisa

Wedding cakes......

For what its worth, here is the guideline we used throughout our wedding planning when it came to $$. Are we going to look back and say we should have done X. If the answer is yes and we could afford it we did it. Even if we thought what we were spending overboard. So I didnt go for the fireworks (no way could we afford them) but we do go for a band.

I agree too...

This is one day and it should be the way you want it...if you can afford it then go for it...My only regret is not extending cocktail hour by a half-hour (I didn't know that it was an option). Get what you want and HAVE FUN!!!! Ayanna-Anubride

My opinion....

I had been going through magazines for months taking out pictures of cakes that I wanted to use - I got married at Carlyle on the Green - I thought any cake was included - when I showed the pictures they told me they would get quotes - I didn't go for the money - they made a cake as close to the picture without charging me extra - I'm sure the cakes that are included are beautiful - All I can say if I don't look back and say I wish I had paid more money (for a cake) at the end it all adds up (more then you realize) Hey, if money is not an issue go for it but if it is I would spend it elsewhere. One last thought - my cake is one of the only wedding cakes I really looked at - I hate to say it but most people give it a quick glance. anyway just an opinion.

Wedding cakes......

I honestly din't even think about a wedding cake... My hall included a cake and it was beautiful - and the florist decorated it really well. It wasn't the best cake I've ever tasted, but most guests preferred to eat the dessert that was served anyway (I know i also never eat the wedding cake at weddings when another dessert is served.) If it was me, I'd put the $250 towards something that will last - like an extra portrait from my photographer...

Wedding cakes......

We picked out a cake that's considered an 'upgrade'. Both for whats in in (napolean - my fiance's idea) and what it looks like http://www.audreybakes.com/Drape.htm We're paying the $300 extra. We figured at this point $300 is nothing in compasion to everything else and we might as well get what we want. The hall tacked it on to out final payment and we didn't even notice the difference. How much do you love the $250 cake?

I agree with Sara

Most people do not look at the cake (unless it is your own) and many people do not even eat the cake. My sister had an expensive cake made for her wedding (each tier was a different flavor) many of the guests did not even get any because they were too busy 'partying' at the wedding. I personally would put the money towards something else. Just my opinion. Good Luck!

Watermill cake

I am also having my wedding at the Watermill, and I saw the 4 cakes that are included, and I am picking one of them (the basket weave). Basically, we cannot afford another $250, and I trust that the Watermill being very reputable for their catering, will have great cakes w/o spending the extra.

Thank you......

for all your input. I really love the cake and it will look great in my pictures. And after all we spent already, what's another $250? On the other hand, it's flour and water!!! Obviously, I haven't made a decision yet, but I have some time. Thanks again! Lisa
