wedding canceled

for personal reasons. we or I should say I decided to cancel the wedding. does anyone know if I have any chance at all, getting any deposits back? we gave $1800 for photo/video. $2400 for my dress. $600 for jewelry. $500 for dj. $500 to hall, then $3800. (these are all deposits) is anyone going to try to get more money out of me? do I need my ex fiance to cancel contracts? I feel horrible i've already wasted enough of my parents money. I don't want to waste anymore. I am just happy I did this now and not after we were married. somethings just aren't meant to be. our wedding was supposed to be April 18th 2008.

wow im so sorry this happened but your right better now than after the wedding.

i believe you can get your hall $$ back if they find someone to take that date from you. id read the contract. as for the other vendors im not sure, everyones different. id go through all the contracts and see.

Im so sorry you have to go through this.

Most vendors keep the deposit but they tend to give some part back if you have made payments. and for the hall. call immediately and let them know i know you don't get full refund unless someone else guarantees your date or something like that. I wished I could be of more help.

OMG i am so sorry to hear this but you said its the best decision and at least glad that its something you are ok with and felt had to be done. Wish you the best

As far as deposits:

Dress-once its in production you owe the full balance, best bet is to sell it.

Hall-if they book your date then you can get it back but usually i know its partial what you can get, def call right away bc you want your date to get booked otherwise not only will you not get your deposit back but youll owe a percentage of what the wedding would've cost.

Dj, photo-see if someone can take over your contracts.

ALL this info is in every contract, its hard to say what you can get bc each vendor has different policies...but they have a cancellation policy in every contract that will answer all your questions...i know with some vendors if i did cancel i would still owe them the full balance

good luck

I'm so sorry you had to cancel - I'm sure it was very difficult. Like you said better sooner than later.

Send certified letters IMMEDIATELY cancelling your contracts and requesting a refund. You never know.

Read the fine print, some of the deposits are non-refundable but are transferrable..

Good luck!

I am soo sorry hon. I do not know about the deposits. I am sure you can contact the vendors & talk to them. Who had signed the contracts? I signed most of mine so I am the contact person anyway.
A friend of mine had to cancel her wedding, and while it was a horrible time for her. Her life turned around after that, she got a new incredible job, & a new incredible love in her life. Sometimes things have to break for the right things to have room to come in.

Let us know how it goes & we wish you the best!

so sorry to hear this

i think your hall would have to rebook the date in order for you to get your money back... some people will post on here that such and such a hall is available on such and such a date... def read your contracts over and see what they say..

we're here if you need to talk

Best of luck...You are right that it is better to do it now than afterwards. If you know its not right then you have to go with your instincts.

my grandmother is flying up next week to go around to cancel things. the dj is in his name, I don't know if that matters or not.

he signed the dj contract. I think I signed the rest of them, or along with him. this was the best decision. he was abusive and never going to change. it was either now or $40,000 later I leave him.

I think your RH could give your deposit back if they find someone to take your date but i'm not sure how the other vendors work I would try to call them. I wish the best of luck
