Wedding Center in Commack

Wedding Center in Commack

I know this is restating what has already been said on here many times, but I just thought I'd share. My bridesmaids just got back from the Wedding Center in Commack to try on some Jim Hjelm dresses. I sent them there ( I live in VA so I couldn't go) because it's one of the few places that carries Jim Hjelm's whole line and I wanted them to try on a specifc dress. Well, they said that the staff there were unbelievably rude. As soon as they walked in they asked my sister why she there. She said, 'To try on bridesmaid's dresses'. The woman said in a rude tone, 'Well when is the wedding', to which my sister said, 'February'. She said the woman than rolled her eyes for some reason and started slamming different dress books onto the table. When my sister told her she was just looking for one specific dress, the woman became a little bit more pleasant and directed her into the back. No one was paying attention to them while they were trying the dresses on. When my sister asked if they could clip the dress for her, the woman snapped one clip onto the front of the dress (?) and said, 'I have no idea how this dress is supposed to look' and walked away. Overall, they had a very bad experience. I wasn't going to have them order them there anyway, but it's funny because I warned them that I had read on here that those people are very rude. She said the dresses were in pretty bad shape too.

I'm not sure how this place stays in business with all the horrible reviews it gets on this website.

That's terrible. I'm sorry to hear they had a bad experience. I had gone there to try on gowns on a weekday night and they weren't exactly pleasant towards me. They kept rolling their eyes and sighing whenever I said I didn't like a dress they had pulled out to show me. I told her a general idea of what I wanted and she pulled out nothing like that. After we found around 8 to try on she tells me to go into the fitting room and then hands me each dress and didn't help me at all to get in or out of them. I had to hold each one up and my step mom clipped it for me so I could see what it might look like since the lady kept disappearing. The place was empty too. It's hard to get in and out of those dresses. The dresses were also very dirty. One even looked like it had blood on it. After I didn't fall in love with the 8 I tried on, my step mom offered to see if they had anymore that I might like and the woman reappeared and said, 'No, that's all you get to try on, I'm done for the night.' She didn't even help me and the place was still open for another two hours.

Oh my! I read the bad reviews but I still went there to check wedding dresses because they were the only ones that had every brand and then I ended up ordering the dress! (because the prices were good) ....My experience was with the saleswoman name Judy...who was veryyyyyy nice....But when I went there to look at bm dresses last week....the women in that section are obnoxious!!!!!! There was 4-5 people working there and 1 lady trying dresses on.....no other customers but me and my girls...and they see me standing there never bothered to ask 'Oh do you need help?''...No!!! So then another sales person walked by and asked me if I needed help...i said YES!!!! Everyone else was soooo interested in what the woman was trying on (not even for bm dresses,....I think she wanted a dress to attend a wedding) YEAH!!!! IN ANYCASE I thought it was a discrimination thing because I look younger than I am..and I'm not white!!! But I guess they just don't like ANYBODY!!! You know if they give me a hard time with my alterations it will be HELLLL!!! I do not recommend COMMACK WEDDING CENTER...You really get what you pay for there!!! Not worth it!

We had the same experience there. They are horrible and rude. We went on a Friday early afternoon when no one was there and it almost seems as if they want you to beg them to help you. Mind you this is THEIR JOB!!!!!! They were more interested in what to get for lunch and what stores have sales that weekend. It amazes me that they are still in business. The only person that was nice and helpful was the lady at the favors/invitation area. She answered questions regarding her department why couldn't the other 'ladies' do the same.

I ordered my dress and BM dress from them. I have to say my experience in the bridal department was a lot more pleasant then BM dresses. They are always too interested in what they want for lunch everytime I go in there the BM ladies are just sitting around coffee clotching once I stood there for 15 minutes before someone asked if I needed help. Nobody else was there. The ladies in the bridal department are fantastic.

I have to comment on this also....because the women there are extremely rudeeeeeee! I went with my girls and I had like 8 of us at a time and they were like bugging out. They gave us the dresses and walked away and just told us to try it all on ourselves. And wouldn't help us after that. So I told them they were rude and couldn't stand them and walked out.....lol

I am sorry you had to deal with that. But I just wanted to add that I got my dress and BM dresses there and had a really good experience.

Stacy was the one that helped me and my BM's. She was sooooo nice (and I was a little difficult). She took out a ton of dresses for me (more than once).

I think I know who you are talking about. There are two women there that also talked to me one night when I was in there talking to Stacy, although they were nice to me they both had snotty tones to their voices and I even said to my mom, I bet these are the women everyone complains about.

Sorry this is so long, but if they have the dress you like and it is probably the best price, go back and ask for Stacy. There was another young girl there that was nice (I don't remember her name, but she was blonde). One more suggestion and then I'll shut up. Try Centereach Bridal Suite. They also carry many designers and have good prices. A girl named Rochelle (not sure on the spelling) helped me, and she was so cool!

My friend and I were in there by accident once (we were looking for Wedding World) and the women working there were extremely rude and cold to us. We walked right out and went to Wedding World a few blocks away. I couldn't believe that you would act that way to two brides who could have been potential clients. I wouldn't go back there if someone paid me. BTW: Wedding World is a great one stop shop if you need a bunch of stuff. My friend and I both booked with them and we couldn't be happier!

Wow! It is amazing that they are still in business after all this terrible customer service. Well hopefully everyone's bad reviews here will save someone a trip there. My sisters drove far for all that. Since they have low prices there, I'm hoping that another store will order the dresses for us and match their price. Burton's quoted me even lower than Bridal Center, but it's a little far for my girls. I called Bridal Suite in Centereach to see if they would match it, since they have signs all over the store saying they will match competitors prices, and they said they don't match with Burtons! I'm hoping they'll match Commack's prices, since they're only $10 more. Unless anyone knows any other stores in Suffolk that match prices?

Sorry, I missed your response when I was posting my last comment. Thanks for the advice! I'm hoping that the Bridal Suite in Centereach will match their prices, because they were really nice there. I think the girls would like to buy the dresses somewhere more on the east end anyway'; Commack is kind of far for them. I'm glad you had a good experience

I would have been nasty right back! I would never give them my business. Good thing you used them for the girls to just see the dress hahahaha.

That stinks, but the reason they stay in business is because they have a decent location, you can plan your WHOLE wedding there, they have 'packages' and not every bride is on this website. I have had good and bad experiences there. So sorry your girls had a bad experience!

Re: Wedding Center in Commack

OMG!!! They did the same thing to my girls...
We went in January (I was with them too!) to look at dresses. When I told them the wedding was in November, they rolled their eyes and laughed and made some rude comments 'under their breath' - but were completely audible....grrr...
Then when one of my girls wanted to order a maternity dress - she asked her when she would be due - and said September (she wanted to hide her mommy belly after having the baby only 6 weeks earlier)... they laughed at her and told her that if she wore a maternity dress she (ROSE) would look 'fatter' (YES! they said FATTER!) So she ordered a non-preggo dress and they ordered her a size 18... she's measuring now as a size 8 and she's due in 8 weeks!!! Needless to say - it's tooooooo big...
THEN, when I wanted to order my dresses in April, she (ROSE) took it upon herself to tell my BM that I was 'crazy' and being too pushy to my BMs... (thank god we ordered early)...
So, we a maternity dress, b/c one of the BMs is preggo and will be four to five months by the wedding... when she was fitted (measurements and all), they took her bust as 35.5 - which measured for a size 8 in maternity...
AS A SIDE NOTE: four days after we placed the order for the dresses, she (ROSE) called up my preggo MOH and told her she had to pay another 50 dollars for her dress... 'cuz it's a maternity dress... it wasn't on her contract though... I was able to talk them (bob the owner) down to 35 dollars... after A LOT of yelling and screaming!!!
So, back to the preggo dress, they took it upon themselves AGAIN to order her a size 12 - which would mean that her bust would be a 42 by the wedding. We went last week to try on the dress - it is literally FALLING OFF of her body. When I asked what they did... she (ROSE) laughed and said 'I told you not to order a maternity - she's not even pregnant'... meanwhile SHE IS!!!
The seamstress there even got on them about 'what they were thinking'... again NO ANSWER... they said we could order another dress - but we would have to pay a 50 dollar 're-stocking' and the full price of the new dress!!! When we went to find out how much the alterations would be - to FIX THEIR MISTAKE - it would be AT LEAST 125 dollars..... DOUBLE GRRRR...
So, we are NOT going to them EVER AGAIN!!! not even for alterations - thank god one of the MILs of my BMs is a seamstress and will do them for us...
IN THE END, DO NOT GO TO THEM, THEY MAY BE CHEAP BUT THEIR ATTITUDE IS TERRIBLE, THEY DON'T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANYTHING THEY'VE DONE WRONG AND, NOT TO MENTION, BOB THE OWNER IS A COMPLETE POOP-FACE!!! (yeah, I've dealt with him too!)

BURTONS IS FANTASTIC!!! THEY WILL MATCH ANYTHING... I GOT MY WEDDING GOWN 300 CHEAPER FROM THEM... AND I USED TWC AS A BARTERING POST...

I agree - I've had a great experience with their invitations & favors department (Doris rocks! lol) & the lady who orders their headpieces (she was a DOLL), but I've seen how nasty their dress dept. can be (I went elsewhere for the dresses). I think that if you avoid the owner (he talks WAYYYYY too much) & the dress dept they're good for pretty much everything else that you need. I work right in Hauppauge so I'm there a lot...if you know who to avoid it's actually a good store

Sorry that you've all had such bad experiences

I walked out on them twice!!! 1st time was will my mother because I thought maybe they were just busy or having a bad day. It's possible. 2nd time I took my fiance and got ignored and then walked away from and then told to talk to the photographers mother or mother-in-law. Whatever. They are soooooooooo RUDE.
