I just wanted to reach out to see if any of you are working with wedding planners/coordinators to help them plan their big day. Originally, I thought of having a DOC (big family with a seperate ceremony and RH) I thought that having a coordinator would be helpful with 'gathering up' everyone.
Now, my mother is suggesting that we should hire a full wedding coordinator to help us find venues for the reception etc. I work nutty hours and it's tough to plan throughout the week. Any thoughts? Raves for a particular event planner?
Thank you in advance for your help!

No way!! No wedding coodinator111 They are over priced and nobody else could do the job you could. I planned my wedding by myself all the way from Michigan with the help of the LIW ladies. Thanks ladies!!!!

If you can afford it and really want it, then go for it.
I work about 70 hours on a good week, with an hour commute both ways, and FH does the same. We still managed to find time to do the planning without a wedding coordinator. We just did lot of reserach online (especially here) before we went out to visit with vendors. This cut down on the amount of running around we had to do.
I wanted to be incredibly involved and not delegate much for the wedding, so I opted not to have one... However, if you think it would be helpful, then by all means go for it.

Re: Wedding Coordinator.. Thoughts?
With my huge family and having a ceremony seperate from the reception hall, I thought having a DOC would be great in gathering up the people, dealing with vendors and making sure that everything runs smoothly. I am very particular about details and if something were to go wrong (ie florist not showing up or limos late) I would love to have someone that is a professional help us out with 'plan b's'

I know, the extra cost of the coordinator/planner is daunting. I wanted this to be as cost effective as possible. My mom is starting to stress me out...

Ah, but a DOC is different from a full on wedding planner. I thought you were looking for insight on a full on wedding planner.
I'm not having a DOC b/c I have a MOH (and parents and brothers) who will make sure it all goes smoothly -- but I do see the value in a DOC for a lot of people who just don't want to have to worry about anything the day of.

I love my Wedding Planner/DOC...her name is Melissa from Fabulous Affairs, she's a vendor on here!!!!! She's definitely not overpriced and has helped me SOOO MUCH!!!!!
I say if you can afford the extra expense then why not. FH andI decided against it b/c we thought it was an uneccessary expense for us and we're doing all the planning with the help of mom and members of the BP.

Re: Wedding Coordinator.. Thoughts?
For us, I totally did not want a full blown wedding coordinator. I was considering a DOC but at first it was just too expensive - then I found my DOC, I LOVE HER and the price was right!!!!
