Wedding Costs

Some of us are saving, some of us are splurging, if you'd like please share in the ball park of how much ur spending on your wedding!

30-35000-depends on honeymoon location. We are trying not to go over that.

We are spending 40000 on the reception alone.

I would say including the HM 80000

$17k (lots of research and negotiating is really paying off). I am determined to stay on budget - so far so good.

It can be really awkward at times can't it?? You can feel like you're pulling teeth or just begging for a break. Having a child while planning a wedding has definitely been the defining force behind negotiating.

i think the poll #s with 5k incredments can be increased to 10k :) i know in new york alone, avg. wedding cost is more like 50k...

nationwide it's about 20-25k :)

our original budget was 10k... small wedding

i think that by the time it's all said and done, we'll have spent 13-14k.

sssshhhhh don't tell fh. he has NO idea what i'm doing with out money.

Reading this is so interesting to me!

I was on a crowded train the other day, chatting with Mom about wedding costs and our budget (since she'll be contributing most of it). I told her quietly that I'd spend around 30K, which I figured was average. Well...this woman sitting besides me poked her head over and said 'THAT IS JUST RIDICULOUS! I just don't understand how people can spend all that money on one day when all you're gonna end up with is some dried flowers and photos!' Wow, she went on to say that 'People need to remember that the wedding is about the marraige...the union of a couple...not all the unnecessary extras!' Shocked by her input I said, yes you have a point that is true...and continued talking to my mother.

A couple of minutes later she says, 'Spend that money on a down payment for a home...do something better with it! That's too much money for a wedding!'

I guess the whole incident was sorta funny, and I know our wedding day will be valued and full of treasured memories but, I sometimes think about this and wonder if FH and I should really go through with the whold ShaBang!

We could really use the extra $$...we've got college loans to pay off and could use this $$ to start our lives...ya know?

Do you all feel the same way at times?
