Wedding Costs?
Hey everybody, not sure I'm posting in the correct section so i apologize ...I'm newly engaged. We have been talking about getting married for a while and he finally decided to propose 2 weeks ago. We were planning on a 2014 wedding, no official date but it would give us time to buy a house and save a little money for wedding costs. Last night my parents told me they want to move out of state in about a year and want to see me get married before they go. They offered me a substantial amount of money toward a wedding. We thought we were on our own for all the wedding stuff so I'm still in complete shock and very overwhelmed! How much does a typical Long Island wedding cost? I don't even know where to begin. This is all happening so much faster than we had planned!!

Re: Wedding Costs?
congrats on your engagement! honestly, a long island wedding can range from $10K-$250K depending on where you have it and what you do.i'd say 'average' is probably $30-60K depending on how many people you have. most reception halls, even those with 'package deals' are going to charge you approx $100pp (and up). so if you have a wedding with only 100 people, that's $10K just for the reception hall. then factor in flowers, photo, video, dress, hair makeup, limos, officiant, music, etc. and it easily creeps up to the $40-60K range.
just do everything at your own pace. if your parents are willing to give you a substantial amount of money towards the wedding, then it can definitely be done in a year depending on how much you think you can save.
good luck!

It totally varies depending on what you want to do. I don't think I'm going over the top at all, mine is very budgeted and I'm going to be a little over $40k. Then there's options like going to an all inclusive type venue that can do it for less than $10k. It depends on what you want, how many people, time of year, etc.

$40k easily.....it's crazy and i'm on a budget!!! a tight one and its just not going well!!!!We initially wanted 10k well we realized that is not reality!!!
All in all, we will be at 25K....including our honey moon...however, not including my dress because thats all my parents and 5k alone. Some of the 25K will be from my parents

If we stay at our minimum without going over on our guest list we should be right at 20k, budget weddings can be done and still be beautiful! My sister got married in March of last year at Timber Point and it was the best time, they spent 20k as well. If you do off season it will definitely help in costs, I'm negotiating with all my vendors for off season prices.

We are having a 100 person wedding in May and after all is said and done (rings, honeymoon-not including spending money, rehearsal dinner etc) we are going to wind up at around $25K.We've gotten a lot of help from out parents and have planned our wedding in 9 months.

It depends on the amount of people you have. The best way to keep the cost down is limit the amount of people, but that is very hard! I have tried to cut down, but we just have a big family. We have 150 people and are trying to stay around 30k to 35k. I am trying to be as frugal as possible! lol

30-40k. however you can get deals (try lessings!) to save you a few bucks for 'last minute booking' at about 9 months out (timber point is lessings)this all depends on how many people you invite (east wind now has an all inclusive for $10k for 100 peeps

It depends on several things. Time of season, day of the week, venue, & vendors. Shop around!!! Extras jack up the price so if you can live w/o a Viennesse hr you can easily save money. Good luck!!

It definitely depends on all of the different factors. When we started planning, I didn't think any more than 30k...I was way off. Turns out we'll be spending around 45-50K. I'm having anxiety just thinking about it, but everyone else does it..we should be ifne!

Re: Wedding Costs?
We're having around 200 people and paying for it ourselves which is why we're having a longer engagement… with all expenses including honeymoon we're looking at about 45-50k.

We will be close to the $40k when it's all said and done... I want to puke looking at that number because I really should have used it for a house ... But I've always dreamed of my wedding and its what I want...That's why I work three jobs!

so funny. we wanted a house first too - and now after the wedding with 20% down, we're probably still a year away from this. *sigh*
we spent about 34k for 100 people. and about 5k on the honeymoon. crazy. but the wedding and the honeymoon were amazing and we wouldnt have changed a thing. but its really sad when you think about how it could've gone to a house down payment.

And I've gotten great deals too! My reception is only $95pp! I can't imagine what I would do it I had to pay full price for everything ( all of my vendors are my friends who owe me:)Fh says this about the house all the time I'm ready to punch him.

Thank you everybody for your input. We started looking into places last night. I think we're gonna go for it. So... September wedding might be happening as long as we can find a place we like!!! It's gonna be a crazy 9 months if this really happens.

Congrats! Don't feel overwhelmed. My friend got engaged a few days after 4th of July this year and got married Sept 23rd of this year. She didn't break the bank and had a really nice wedding. It really does come down to amount of people venue time of year and time of day. We saved our self a few thousand by doing a day time wedding. I really didn't want to budge on the time of year cause I hate being cold. I love fall so that I was willing to pay the extra for.Welcome New Vendors
