Wedding date

so my FH and I decided on september 2009 b/c i am graduating from nursing school in May of 2009...and then after i graduate i have to take the boards and get a jobby job!! lol...so we figured the wedding should be in september to give me time to adjust...but we were talking and saying how FAR away it is and we were thinking of maybe an early spring wedding...to keep costs down as well...what do you guys think as far as planning/stress. would it be easier to get married before or after i graduate?

Def after... Just because I'm a firm believer in finsihing school and then getting a job b4 we start a life together..... im graduating this may, but giving myself time to adjust to living together first (we're moving in together this summer) and also to a job that may not be so easy to come by

I would just say get married before you start a new job - in case you want to take a long honeymoon, school might be more flexible with days off than work.

yeah but i don't really want a summer wedding ...but i don't think i can wait until october to get a job! lol...but i was worried about that...starting a new job and then being like 'hey by the way, i'll be getting married soon and taking off most of the month.' lol ...they'd love that i'm sure.

I really feel that if you arent settled in with a job... Your marriage will prob have a rocky start... unless your FH can support the 2 of you... Not everyone is that lucky

IMO you should wait until you graduate. Finish what you started before you get married.

Def. after you graduate so you can completely concentrate on the wedding. Besides september of 09 will come so quickly

Re: Wedding date

I also say after. With school, it's not easy to take time off (if you miss a crucial class, or a test, etc, it's easy to fall behind). with work, if you put it out there on the interview that you'd love to work for them and you hope they can work around your honeymoon, i think they'd have no problem!

i'm starting nursing school in Sept. 09 (i'm doing my pre reqs in 08) and we're getting married *before* school starts. we would have waited until after i graduate but that would mean almost a 3 year engagement, which i thought was dragging it out a bit. Fh is totally aware of challenges that will arise with me being in school and not working after we're married, and he's happy to accept the responsibility involved. so i guess it could go either way!

Re: Wedding date

wait til after you graduate but if you REALLY DONT WANT A SUMMER WEDDING..... pushing it to october isn't too bad.. it's actually not as far away as it seems? just think of all the finals you will have to take plus plan a wedding if you did it in may...... unless you want to do it in April....... (again.. we don tknow what your school load is like) but I am assuming that right before you graduate.. will be FINALS GALORE... so I don't think you want that

Re: Wedding date

question....you said you were gonna wait till you get a job.....do you think starting a new job and then getting married and taking a honeymoon is a good move???? just something to think about!!! you might want to consider moving the wedding closer to graduation so that you can start your job afterwards and not have to take time off right away

Re: Wedding date

I would wait. We are getting married in nov 2009 because I want to finish grad school and make sure Im settled in my job plus have time to save enough money so hopefully we will be able to buy a house not too long after we are married. We could have gotten married sooner and would have loved too but we want to be able to enjoy married life and not be stressed out with school and finding a job. I think if you wait longer you will be able to enjoy everything more! We decided to wait that way I will be working for about a year before we are married and we are preparing to wait till the summer to take our full honeymoon. Thats what works best for us...think about it... do you really want extra stress while planning your wedding? and do you really still want o be going to school once your married? wouldnt you rather be at home with your hubby at night relaxing rather then taking stupid night classes???

Re: Wedding date

Im currently in nursing school (LPN to RN) in the city and with the stress of that I know I wouldnt handle planning a wedding. We decided to wait until I graduate. I know myself very well and am easily distracted so wedding planning would become my priority and not school so we are waiting.
Plus with school in the city I am only able to work three days which basically lets me pay my bills and thats it so I cant save for the wedding, but when Im done i'll be making some bank so i'll be able to save some major cash. U might only be taking your boards in sept if you graduated in may. Or at least thats when two of the people I work with ended up with...graduating in may boards early sept.
Just my thoughts on the subject, hope it helps.
