Wedding Date Advice...Please help!

So my FI and I have planned to have a Thursday wedding in July or August of 2015, and we were told that July 2nd would be a good date. July 2, 2015 is the Thursday before Independence Day (Saturday) and I was told that people get that Friday before the holiday off from work. What I would like to know is: Does that really happen? I've been trying to ask around to figure out if people sometimes get off from work the Friday before a holiday but haven't really gotten an idea of whether it actually happens. Can anyone let me know if they know whether it's true or not? I'd appreciate the input. Thanks in advance!

A lot of people get married on Fridays/ Thursdays even on Wednesdays I've heard. the day before a holiday is usually cheaper I was quoted about $40 less per person for the Thursday before Memorial Day weekend. So its really a preference, and if your guest can make it

I've never had the day before a holiday of especially the 4th if July!! Maybe the day after but again not the 4th if July. A major holiday like xmas yes! Only now at my new job do we get out early but don't have the day off! Hope that helps!

When I worked in a bank (America's Most 'Convenient' Bank), when we used to be only closed on xmas, new years, easter and thanksgiving, we always got out early on 4th of July. The branch closed at 2. Now they've molded more to the norm and are closed all the red white & blue holidays. But in this case, we wouldn't have off or close early Friday because the bank is open Saturday. It really all depends on the company. Now that a lot of companys run day-to-day operations on the weekends, it's less likely a lot of people will have off on the 3rd.

I think it all depends on what you want to do and what you can afford. People who want to be there will be there and those that are too inconvenienced... do you really want them there whining anyway? You'll have an amazing time no matter what and you have to do what's right for you. Having a Thursday evening wedding is a huge money saver and nobody should judge you for that!

You're absolutely right. Thank you so much! I think it's just so easy to get caught up in who can be there when at the end of the day, it's really about us. I think that's why it's been taking us so long to figure out a date. And everyone has been telling me that if I have it on a Thursday I should have it in the evening so that people can come to the wedding after work. What the heck? If we give them over 1yr notice, shouldn't they be able to make the choice to take off or not if it's earlier in the day? I certainly think so. Thanks for the reminder that we have to do what's right for us! :)

And thank you everyone for your input. It was very helpful!

I was apprehensive about that date too for the same reasons, but I talked to many of my family and friends who said it wouldn't be a problem. So we booked July 2, 2015! My cousin got married the day before the fourth a few years back too and I talked to her before I booked. She said almost everyone she invited came. Friday July 3 2015 is the observed day of the fourth since it falls on a Saturday. Most places should have off, since they are treating it like the holiday. I'm planning on sending my save the dates a year in advance and have the same mindset as you- let the guests know so they have a year to plan! Best of luck! Hope this helps!

Wow I'm so glad to have someone in the same boat as me! Thank you so much for telling me that. Yeah I spoke to a couple of family and friends as well. Some said it's an iffy date since people will be traveling then. But if I give them enough notice, I think that will give them a lot of time in advance to plan, like you said. My FI's manager said that his business would probably be getting the Monday after off and not the Friday. But either way, I think the 2nd would be a good date as well. That definitely gave me some relief for picking that date though. Thank you!

My office usually only closes around 3pm, maybe 3 times a year. It depends. Usually it's the day before Thanksgiving, Chrismtas and 4th of July.

My office closes at 3pm this year on that Thursday! Next year (2015) we will close on Friday at 3pm.
