So I am behind the 8-ball planning a wedding. Thinking about Spring of next year. I wanted June, but it's pricey.
So then I wanted the Sunday of memorial day weekend, but it's booked.
The most reasonable choices seem to be
A Saturday night the first week in March A Sunday night the first week in May.
They're the same price.
The downside to March is the weather is really iffy. ALso the grounds at my hall are really kind of blah in the winter. The upside is it's Saturday night.
The downside to May is it's a Sunday. I really want people to stay to the end and enjoy the cake and viennese, etc. And also to be in 'party mode' and have a good time. The upside is the weather will be nice and the grounds will have flowers and it''ll be spring- my favorite season!
I'm kind of leaning toward the Sunday at this point. I've been engaged for over 5 years, already planned a wedding and cancelled it and I really want everything as nice as possible. Please tell me what you think.
We could also do a Saturday night in like November for $30 more. It gives us more time, but my first wedding plan was winter, and I'm over it!
We don't have a ton of OOT guests, but we have a lot from upstate and NJ, but I think they're close enough family to take Monday off.

Re: Wedding date - Please help me choose!
Its really up to you and what you want....personally I love Saturday night weddings, I just like the fact that I don't have to worry about work the next day....but if I go to a Sunday wedding, it doesn't stop me from having a good time just bc of work the next day.

I say go for Sunday night. People will stay and have fun. Most people would probably take off Monday in advance so they won't have to worry about leaving early.

Do what works best for you and FH financially but I'd go for the Sunday in May. That still leaves you lots of time to plan and Sundays are usually less expensive.

Re: Wedding date - Please help me choose!
I would prefer a Saturday night wedding, but I also HATE the cold. So if it were me, I'd give up the Saturday and do a Sunday in May so it's warm.
My best friend did a Sunday night wedding in July a few years ago. We had a great time. I was in the BP, so I of course stayed the whole time. Most people stayed the whole time. My only mistake was NOT taking off of work the next day.....I was exhausted! But that didn't stop me from enjoying the wedding.

Re: Wedding date - Please help me choose!
One hall we looked at gave us an awesome deal for a Sat night in March or Feb. But i HATE HATE and would only get married in the Winter if it was around christmas cuz the halls and church's are still decorated. I ended up booking Sept on a Friday night.
Are Friday nights an option cuz thats another way to save $ w/o going into the colder seasons?

I think a Sunday Morning wedding is really nice. People are more willing to stay. I was a BM for a friend who had a Sunday evening wedding. I felt so bad for her because 85% of her guests left after dinner.

I'm torn between the March and May...I voted for March b/c Sat. weddings are great since you dont have work the next day.
Also, keep in mind, the later you have the wedding, the more time you have to save for it!

I agree. March seems too soon to me. It's less than a year. I have a LOT of money to save and a lot of weight to lose.
The otheralternative is late 2010/early 2011, but we've been engaged since 2004! Also, it's morbid, but FFIL is quite ill, and FSIL moved her wedding sooner. I think May is a good compromise.
I'm VERY worried about money in this economy.

Re: Wedding date - Please help me choose!
After reading your post, I voted for Sunday in early May. Since you have been engaged for a bit, it seems like you are ready to get the wedding thing rolling. Even though Memorial Day is beautiful (I was looking for this too but decided on early May) that is quite a wait. If you are looking for something out doorsy, I would definitely NOT opt for March or November (it's freezing right now!). Oh and the Sunday thing...is totally OK. Its the new thing now, the people you care about will stay and party it out. Everyone looks forward to taking a three day weekend anyway. In the end, the choice is really yours. I would just consider what means the most to you...is the weather most important...Do you mind waiting another 2 years to be married? Is a Saturday night at the top of your list? Its all about priorities. It is a major decision...just think, you will be happy with whatever the outcome is. Good luck :o)

Re: Wedding date - Please help me choose!
I am having my wedding on a Sunday in June. I originally had planned on a Feb/March wedding due to pricing. But I also had concerns about the weather, so when I found out my RH had the same pricing for Sundays from April to August for about the same price as a Saturday night in Feb/Mar, I jumped at the chance.
In reality, it doesn't matter if you do it on a Saturday night or Sunday night, you will always have people leave early. Those who really want to be there until the end, if they know it is a Sunday night wedding, will take the next day off so they can enjoy themselves. I let people know now about my date, most of them said they are prepared to take a vacation day/personal day the day after my wedding.

i agree with the other girls.... those who are closest to you will stay no matter what, and there will be people that leave so i say go for when it is nicer out in may on a sunday... if you really want sat night though then maybe 2011 would be a good option for you so that you have more time to save.

Re: Wedding date - Please help me choose!
I feel so disappointed now. I thought it was such a great idea...just scale down and do the wedding.
My mom said 'Sunday weddings are so horrible!'
and she also complained about me wanting to use my free dress. SHe wants me to get an expensive one.
She wants me to wait until 2011 so I can have the Sat nite in June or whatever...
She also has a point that FH currently has no job, which makes total sense..I am scared too. So maybe 2011 would be smartrer, but I've waited forever and I don't see the point in waiting an extra year just to have a bigger wedding, KWIM? I'll be 29 in 2011. It's not that 29 is old, but I got engaged at 21!
