Wedding Dress

I haven't started looking for my wedding dress yet however I made an appointment with David's Bridal just to see how things were, but one of my friends said not to go there .... and then i was reading some forums and some of you ladies dont like macy's bridal either so I was wondering if anyone had any thought of where I should start looking for my dress... thanks

Re: Wedding Dress

Go wherever you'd like to go - Most places will have positive and negative reviews.

I had a good experiene looking at Macys, but I found my gown at Lillette's. So far, I've had great experiences with Lillette's, too. It also has a few negative reviews, but every place does.

Just go enjoy looking for now and look at a few different places. I highly recommend Lillette's in Baldwin personally - and I had no problems with Macys either.

The places I didn't like get recommended here all time, too. Everyone has a different experience. Don't let a couple bad reviews get you down.

I agree. I got mine at Macy's and I LOOOOOVE Charmaine, the manager. They're a bit pricey though, but I would give it a shot! At the very least it's a well organized place so you can easily get around and find the style you're looking for...

Trying look at stores in your area. Also Bridal Reflections in carle place and massapequa have a nice selection. I got my BM dresses at Valentina bridal in BK. I purchased my gown at Kleinfelds in Manhattan. My mother got her dress at Bridal suite in Huntington. MY flowergirls got their dress from bridal elegance in commack.

i had a bad experience with macy's, i made an appointment but had to wait 1/2 hour to get shown to a fitting room... my mom and i picked out the gowns ourselves and tried them on with no help... i think a salesperson poked her head in once and then got called away by another bride, and never came back. we were there for maybe a total of 45 minutes and left.

i got my gown at lynbrook bridal center, but i also had good experiences at moonlight couture in merrick and beautiful bride in lynbrook.

It doesn't hurt to go to Macy's or DB just to check it out. It's at least someplace to start. Plus, you can usually find Macy's dresses elsewhere (they are overpriced there).

I went to look at DB and found something i like but I can't seem to find it anywhere else. I'm probably going to end up going back to the store and buying it but i'm looking at a few more places in the meantime.

Re: Wedding Dress

i started off at Lilettes and went to places like Rk Bridal where the selection is big and I just tried on anything and everything just to see what looked good and narrowed it down that way.

i dont think Davids is a bad place to start if you've just started looking. you can get a feel for what you like. good luck!

I totally recommend Lidia's in Copiague. It is a beautiful salon and the customer service has been exceptional. I went to Macys, Paradise, Bridal Reflections, The Wedding Salon and 2 other bridal suites and none compared to Lidia's. Definitely go and check them out.

Re: Wedding Dress

David's has a lot of nice dresses and the prices are very affordable. They get a lot of negative reviews because they don't offer the kind of personal attention across the board that smaller bridal boutiques can offer. However, if you make an appointment at an off time (weekday, or right when they open on a weekend), you won't have to contend with as many people and you can work with a consultant who can help you. Don't hesitate to ask for another consultant if you don't 'click' with whoever they give you.

It helps to look on their website first and pick out a few you'd like to try on so the person can pull them for you as you're starting out.

I would take the dress elsewhere for alterations though.

Re: Wedding Dress

You have plenty of time.
Lillett'es is good.
Bridal Reflections has three locations.
Bridal Suite has a couple of locations.

Think about what you like in a dress, what you don't like.
Get a few bridal magazines just to see what's out there.
When you do start to shop, be open to ideas that the salesladies give you.
A dress may look great in a picture or on a hanger and horrible on you. Vice versa.
Make sure you have decent undergarments when trying on. May be worthwhile to get a strapless bra (in nude color) for the trying on process.

Above all, have fun and enjoy !

I agree. You have pleanty of time to find one. I would recommend going to a full service salon first (there is one in Carle Place, the name of which is escaping me...Bridal Reflections??) so you get to see the full range of styles on you and try on LOTS. After that, you should have an idea of what styles you like (a-line, strapless, etc). Then start web searching and see if there are certain designers that you really like and then see what stores carry those lines.

I first found my gown first at a big salon down here in the DC area where I live, then tried it on at another salon on LI so my mother could see it, and in the end, ordered it from Burton's in Huntington Sta b/c they gave me the best price of anyone ($500 cheaper than the other places).

But at this point, you just need to go to try lots on and see what you like and dont' like. After that, it gets a lot easier to narrow it down to find 'the one.'

Re: Wedding Dress

it's true, people have different experiences. The best thing to do is look through some magazines and online and figure out which makers you like and can afford, and then find salons that carry them. And then once you're there, try on different things.

I read a lot of bad feedback about the Commack Wedding Center, which is where I bought my gown. I didn't try it on there, they didn't have the sample, but they offered to order it for me at the lowest price. I've heard the sales help can be downright rude, but they weren't to me. They were pretty slow and easily distracted, but they were nice enough to me. And all I was really interested in was the low price, and the convenience of having the salon fairly close to my home, as opposed to RK Bridal in Manhattan, which was nearly the same price, but in Manhattan, which would have made picking up the dress an issue.

RK bride here... must say it was sooo much fun driving into the garment district, parking at the garage on the same block as RK, and physically picking up the gown at RK with all those brides running about, grabbing lunch, and then driving home with the white poof in the trunk... it was like a bridal ritual

Re: Wedding Dress

Def try Davids. That's a good place to try on diff styles & find out what looks good on you.

I had a great experience at Macy's. This is where I ended up getting my dress. I went here 3 times & found the dress the last time.

Had a great experience at Bridal Salon of Bayshore.

I thought RK bridal was good too...had a couple 'nightmare experiences' at some other places....ones that other people had good experiences at.

Take everything with a grain of salt. It's like gossip...you listen to it, take it into consideration & then make your own decision about the content.

I highly recommend Lilettes...that's where I'm buying my gown....

I've heard people rave about Phyllis with Bridal Elegance as well

went to Bridal Reflections...no thanks JMHO
Lynbrook was good too if your on a budget but if your looking for top name designers go to Kleinfeld...they really have the best selection and you'll totally get the 'experience'

Re: Wedding Dress

you kind of have to go to a bunch of different places. you never know what you're going to find. just be aware of brides who have had customer service problems and especially alteration catastrophies with some of these places.
