I haven't started looking for my wedding dress yet however I made an appointment with David's Bridal just to see how things were, but one of my friends said not to go there .... and then i was reading some forums and some of you ladies dont like macy's bridal either so I was wondering if anyone had any thought of where I should start looking for my dress... thanks

David's has a lot of nice dresses and the prices are very affordable. They get a lot of negative reviews because they don't offer the kind of personal attention across the board that smaller bridal boutiques can offer. However, if you make an appointment at an off time (weekday, or right when they open on a weekend), you won't have to contend with as many people and you can work with a consultant who can help you. Don't hesitate to ask for another consultant if you don't 'click' with whoever they give you.
It helps to look on their website first and pick out a few you'd like to try on so the person can pull them for you as you're starting out.
I would take the dress elsewhere for alterations though.
I agree with everything you said. I started at David's and ended up finding THE dress. I've gone in during busy times & gotten zero help & attention (which is why I've always brought mom & a BM along). I've also gone in during slow times (the night I purchased my gown) & I received lots of help & attention.
Don't be discouraged from checking someplace out because of a bad review. You should shop around & see what works for you.
Thank you ladies for all of your opinions and information.. I do have a lot of time so I will definately try different places... I wrote them all down... lol ...

Re: Wedding Dress
I suggest you go where ever you like with open mind. Try on anything you like and choose the best. When you try on a dress make sure you tell them you want to see a dress from $200 bucks and up, if you give them a set of budget, they will limit the dress that can show you.
The most important thing...enjoy the experience.

Re: Wedding Dress
I got my dress, my moh & bm dresses & flower girl dresses at David's. When I went I found them to be very helpful. I took my dress home with me and my girls ordered their dresses and had them within 2 weeks. I guess it depends on the time and day that you go. It doesn't hurt to look and get ideas.

Re: Wedding Dress
Posted by portjeffbride bride here... must say it was sooo much fun driving into the garment district, parking at the garage on the same block as RK, and physically picking up the gown at RK with all those brides running about, grabbing lunch, and then driving home with the white poof in the trunk... it was like a bridal ritual
I work in Manhattan, so having to drive in to the city on an extra day to get the gown did not appeal to me. But I can see how it could be fun for someone else. I did enjoy trying on gowns at RK Bridal, there were so many other brides there that day. One girl had this grin on her face like I couldn't believe, it was practically from ear to ear, she was SO adorable. And when I had on what would end up being my gown, a complete stranger came up to me on the pedestal and told me that it looked great on me, and the ivory color was the one I should get, it really complimented my complexion. And I did!

Re: Wedding Dress
David's Bridal had VERY BAD reviews for their alterations not their dresses.
You can buy your dress there and get it altered somewhere else. Plenty of brides did that.

Re: Wedding Dress
I got my dress from David's. They were so nice! The girl that helped me was named Malacia and she was wonderful! I am sooo picky - I don't know how she did it! You will find good and bad reviews everywhere. I would def suggest starting there at least. Good Luck!

Re: Wedding Dress
I heard SO MANY BAD THINGS about David's. But... I went anyway. And I found a wonderful dress and I bought it. It came in quickly and it was in perfect condition.
I did not - however - get my dress altered at David's. The turnover is too high for me to have been comfortable with the seamstress.
If you look at most reviews - it is usually the alterations that make people write a bad review about a bridal salon.
