I was engaged once before and was to be married in April of 2008. 11 days before the wedding the douchebag of an excuse of a man who was my Ex canceled the wedding. Needless to say, I lost quite a bit of money.
I had originally bought a dress 1 year before the wedding. My ex, FMIL was dying to see the dress event hough i wanted to keep it a surprise (and i hated her anyway) and i finally relented to avoid problems and showed her the dress.
About 3 months before the wedding I decided I wasn't crazy about the first dress I bought so i exchanged it for another one.
When the wedding was canceled, I never got rid of my dress. Now, i am engaged and will be getting married next year. I love the dress. But should I wear it since it was for a different wedding?
Thoughts!

Re: Wedding Dress
well I don't see why you shouldn't. If you really love the dress. Its not like you actually wore it already.

Re: Wedding Dress
I would NOT do it... but that is just MPO....
That dress is from the PAST a past that should NOT be in your Present and Future....
I would NOT wear it...

Re: Wedding Dress
Do whatever you are comfortable with. If you love the dress and want to wear it, go for it! I know of at least two brides who were in the same situation and did wear the dress when they eventually got married.

Re: Wedding Dress
i don't think i'd want to use something that reminds me of an ex.
but if i were to wear it, i would not tell FH that it was a dress i bought for a diff wedding. i think FH would be mad.

Re: Wedding Dress
I think that when you are shopping for a dress, you are TOTALLY thinking about your FH and what he will think while you are walking down towards him...so...that first dress was bought with your ex in mind.
I feel like it would be more the natural way if the dress you wear for this wedding is associated ONLY with this man and this wedding and this time in your life. Plus, never discount all the new dresses and designs that have come out since then. If you love your first dress, then look for something in that style...but if i were you, I would also try stuff on TOTALLY different...because I bet you are not the person you were then...why should your dress be, you know?

Re: Wedding Dress
when i first bought this dress, i wasn't really thinking about my ex, i was just thinking about how i looked in it actually. come to think of it, both times i bought a dress i didn't think of my ex at all when i tried them on. maybe it was a sign. if i wear this dress, i would never tell my FH now that it was my dress from before.

Re: Wedding Dress
First - What a douchelord!!! I'm happy to hear you moved on and the experience didn't leave you jaded about marriage.
Second- I would've gotten rid of the dress after the incident but that's just me. I get rid of everything of an ex after a break up lol! I don't like being reminded - especially if the guy was a loser. That being said, I would completely tell your FH if you plan to wear it - he might be hurt down the road if he finds out or he might be completely cool with it - either way, I think you should know how he feels about it too.
Good Luck! You can always try to sell it and recoup some money for a new dress in a similar style that is even more beautiful.

Re: Wedding Dress
I'd wear it.
It's not like you got married in it.
As far as I'm concerned, you love it, so wear it!
No one needs to know when you bought it.

Re: Wedding Dress
I find this a really interesting question, because I think about it a lot. I was supposed to be married this past September, and I was left 12 days before my wedding. I am not looking for a relationship, and can't even imagine being engaged again, but I do think what will I do if I do get married in the future? I loooovvvvvvveeeee my dress! Nobody ever saw it except my mom and grandparents. I even wish I had gotten to post it on here, so at least it could have been seen. I think if you really love it and are comfortable with it, it's okay to wear it. I will be interested in what you decide. Good Luck!

Re: Wedding Dress
I'm sorry you had to experience that, but am glad to see that you have moved on. Saying that, I personally wouldn't wear the dress. I would want to start over fresh and I feel wearing that dress would make me think of my past. This is JMO though.
