O.K. heres the problemI had thought I found the 'perfect' gown and ordered it back in September. The store I purchased it from had a flood and my sample dress was destroyed I went out to another store to search for the dress to try on and show my maid of honor. While looking I came across another dress and I could not believe that I fell in love with it! This dress was the 'one'. My question is; Has anyone attempted to cancel a dress order and if so what happened? I placed an $800 deposit which I'm willing to swallow if I don't have to pay the remaining $700. I checked with the original store and they carry the designer of the new dress so I'd be purchasing dress through them regardless as will my bridal party. Please, someone help me with this icky situation. Thanks

ups! that is something hard ... does your store has any terms regarding cancellations? If you are getting the new dress from them, may be if you are nice and persuasive with them, they can give you a discount. My store does not take cancellations, it is on the receipt.
good luck, and keep us posted!

Re: Wedding dress dilema
If your sample is ruined and it's their fault, I don't see why they would give you a problem refunding your money? Also, find out who the designer is and see if they can order your dream dress as the replacement. Good Luck!

Re: Wedding dress dilema
Contact them, if the order is not too far along and you would be ordering the new dress from them as well they may be willing to work with you. Being that the sample of your dress was ruined, they might be able to use the dress you ordered as the new sample. If you really feel this new dress is IT, cry, beg and plead until they work something out with you.
Your post scares me! I just ordered my dress this week and my wedding isn't for another year and a half (I couldn't help myself, I fell in love)! I swear I will not even let myself glance at another dress out of fear the same thing will happen to me!

It shouldn't be a problem for them to change the dress, are you sure that's what you want? You definitely won't have any regrets right? Also, did you say you were getting the sample and if not did they start the dress yet? You should go to the shop and see what they tell you.

Re: Wedding dress dilema
I read post again and I see that you are getting the sample. Since you said it was ruined it shouldn't be a problem for them.
unfortunately since your wedding is in September...I think that they have ordered it already (usually 8 months- but sometimes 6 - is the order date)
but you never know...if you are keeping your business with them...it doesn't hurt to ask and swallow the $800...I would have done it if my dream dress wasn't $5000

Re: Wedding dress dilema
My bridal salon will let you cancel a dress order, but you don't get your deposit back. You have to keep it as 'Store credit' and apply it to something like bridesmaid dresses, tiara, shoes, whatever. I know some other shops operate the same way.

I think Brooke is right... whatever you put down - will remain as a store credit. When you contact the store, let us know what happens.
