how soon after a dress comes out is it discontinued? does it matter on the brand? I;m looking at Maggie Soterro's if that matters. it's too soon for me to go look but I absolutely love one that's online and want to make sure i can buy it later on if i like it in person.
thanks :)

Re: wedding dress discontinuation
I know in my case the dress that i picked out is a 2007 style (wedding is in 09) so what I did (which is common practice) is put a $100 down on the dress at the bridal shop so just in case it is discontinued, the lady can order it for me and if i decide that i no longer want it at that point (or any point really) I can take that $100 and apply it to a different dress.

Re: wedding dress discontinuation
My dress was out for about 1 year and then it was discontinued.
The norm of this is the popularity of certain style. If you see the dress in the store and almost every store has a sample it will probably be a popular dress. I had to SEARCH state wide for my dress and wound up in Charleston SC to put the sample on.
I know this doesnt help much but just an FYI

I don't know how long the 'run' is for, but I do know my dress is currently discontinued. I'm happy when I ordered it instead of waiting....

I was also able to put 100 down on the dress and still be able order it even if it becomes discontinued...I am also allowed to use this money down on any dress if i change my mind...this was at Macys but they only have Demetrios dresses

Re: wedding dress discontinuation
I'd say if you absolutely and totally LOVE it, then get it now.
Here's my reasoning: Back in 2003, my sister loved a particular Maggie dress, had pictures ripped from magazines, etc. When she finally went dress shopping, she picked one that was similar b/c her dream dress had been discontinued a few yrs back.
Sometime in 2004: While helping my sis w/ wedding planning, I fell in love with a Maggie dress named Cordelia. Now, I had NO plans to get married..... I wasn't seeing anyone and I hadn't even met FH yet!!!
Fast forward to 2007: So, the picture of Cordelia sat in one of my computer folders until May 2007, after FH proposed. I called MANY stores, Long Island, Queens, New Jersey.... no one had Cordelia. It was even gone from Maggie's site. I signed onto LIW and noticed an '08er (madseason) had Cordelia..... the only way I'd be able to get this dress too was to have it shipped to a bridal salon for $$ and if I didn't like the way it looked on me, I'd be out the $$.
Went to David's Bridal a month later just for fun to try on dresses for the first time, and during that visit, fell in love with what totally became my dream dress. I ordered it in November 2007 for my November 2008 wedding. It came in very early.... Dec 2007. Everyone thought I was CRAZY to get it that early.
But........ earlier this year, when David's came out with their Spring 2008 line, my dream dress disappeared from their website. It's gone, discontinued. But I have my dress!!
So..... if you LOVE the Maggie dress, get it now before it disappears!! Good luck!!!!
