I'm getting married in 5 weeks (Labor Day weekend) and I have no dress. We just booked the venue last week (don't ask), and now the invitations are done and out. The good news is that people have been willing to negotiate because of the slow economy and last minute nature of things. The bad news is, I have no dress. I live in the NY area, and I'm about a size 14-16 in regular dresses; no clue in bridal ones. I am already looking at RK Bridal and my mom is into Kleinfeld's thanks to TLC. However, she's not figuring in turnaround time. Did I mention that I have 5 weeks and no dress? Any and all suggestions welcome, please just spare me the lecture about doing things on this kind of schedule. The family dynamic is enough to deal with...

Wow...I admire your courage lol!!! :) The best place to go for your dress is David's Bridal...my sis got her dress there and it came in one week...! You can try them on and take the one you try on if you like it that day. GL

Don't panic...trust me, that's the worst you can do. I just bought my dress and I'm two months away from my wedding. Other than David's Bridal, you may have to look for used wedding dresses. I just found the exact dress I have been looking for. It was used, cleaned, and preserved. It is absolutely stunning and no defects except a few sparkles missing! That's it! There are girls on here that are selling their wedding gowns. You can also check on Craigslist. I tried one on two weeks ago and it was stunning...just not what I was looking for. There are also websites like www.preownedweddingdresses.com and others where you can search for dresses in NY. I was starting to stress over it, and honestly had nightmares once a week (the same one) where it was my wedding day and I still hadn't gotten a dress and had to run to the mall. Trust me, the stress is not worth it. You will find a dress. Just take a deep breath and start searching.

I would recommend Davids Bridal too. This week would be a good week to go. Through Monday August 10th they are having a $99 dress sale (on most styles) and the rest are with a big discount. Plus they carry a variety of sizes as well.

Kleinfelds is having a sample sale on Sunday (I think). The dresses are cheaper but you need to purchase the sample dress on the floor. Might be an option.
The bridal garden sells donated dresses for a charity. Some dresses are pre-owned and others are new and donated to the garden. It would be worth a try.

Go to David's Bridal - they should be able to get you a dress fast. I hear they keep many sizes in stock and can get it to your store quickly.
Also call Ann Taylor, Nicole Miller and JCrew to see how fast they can do dresses. I was once in a Nicole Miller store in FL and they had wedding dresses on racks in hte back of hte store. Ann Taylor and JCrew do internet orders and if they can get it to you quickly enough, you just need a seamstress to perfect the fit.
To figure out your size, go to a bridal salon and get fitted so at least you know your size. Then maybe you get even look on the internet, you might find something good there.

Totally agree with the other girls about Davids Bridal. You can buy a dress off the rack and there are several on the island so if they don't have the dress you want in the size you need then have them call another store.

You can search the area and try on and arrange pick up. might need to get the dress altered. Also need to be OK with wearing a dress that was already worn.
I could have sworn that I saw a section at RK Bridal that said something like 'dresses in 2 weeks.' It was mostly DaVinci dresses.
I would go to RK bridal and see what they can do for you. I know my cousin bought hers at RK Bridal and it arrived at the store in 3 weeks. It was from the designer 'white one'.
Also, try contacting Designer Loft. I know they sell samples so maybe see if you can buy a sample and have them alter it for you within your time frame.
