I have been engaged now for over a year and I still have a little more than a year to go. I have been pushing off my dress search forever. Well...the time has come and I am freaking out!!!
I am not a size 8 you know? And what if the women at the store are mean? And what if I look like the marshmellow woman in my dress or a Macy's Day float more than a beautiful blushing bride??? I am having nightmares!
Sorry - just needed to get that off my chest. But I am hoping that the experience will be better than the drama I have in my head!

Re: Wedding Dress Nightmares!
I, too, am not a size 8. My christening dress was bigger than that! I am starting my dress shopping this coming weekend and, fortunately, I'm not all that concerned.
I recently finished shopping with my MOH (a plus-size bride) for her own wedding gown. In the salons, we encountered only helpful, supportive and seemingly non-judgemental sales people. I know she had only good experiences.
For my first day of appointments, I am only bringing people with me that I am not self-conscious in front of. When I hunted down a salon that has a sample of the dress I have my heart set on, I learned that the sample dress is a 12 (I am a 16). I'm going to wear my 'suck 'em in' underwear and prepare to laugh as my MOH squeezes me into this dress.
Regardless of what size you are, your fiance' is in love with you and you will be the most beautiful bride he has ever seen. When you get nervous, think of that.

Re: Wedding Dress Nightmares!
well to be honest... the majority of ladies are not a size 8 in a wedidng dress but you look pretty small in your picture i am sure you will look beautiful... who cares what people think... you will not look like a white marshmellow!!! do not go to manhasset...i can tell you that much.. they make anyone feel like they are not close to perfect!!!
i don't know why they don't have several samples... they are all 10's for what i saw

I am not a size 8 either and that is true that not many brides are a size 8. However, I made sure I brought along my bridesmaid who is honest and very supportive. I think that is the key to helping you find the perfect dress and I mean for any occasion. I never trust salespeople and their opinions anyway.
Good luck and have fun with it!!

Re: Wedding Dress Nightmares!
Well these days a true size 8 would be about a 14 in wedding dress sizes...a friend of mine is a true size 6 and wore a 14 dress!!! BUT...Im in a similair boat and its bothering me so much I wont go look at dresses...I figure I have 6 months TOPS to order, that gives me till end of summer and I will look then, I am trying to lose enough weight to wear a strapless dress...Now I have seen TONS of pictures of woman who are clearly not size 8's and they all look AMAZING and absoultly BEAUTIFUL in their dresses...I wish we could knowing how good they look feel ok with ourselves!!! Go look at dresses!! Have fun!!!!!!!!!
