Yesterday was my first time looking and trying on wedding dresses. We went to the Bridal Suite in Bay Shore and I found a dress I liked and tried it on. The woman that was helping me told me if I decided to order the dress they would have to order the dress in a size 8. That is fine but the only problem is that I am not even 5ft tall and weigh less then 100 pounds. I just could not understand why she was insisting I get the gown in a size 8. Normally I would be a size 2.
Has anybody ever had experience with a situation like this? I don’t know if I should just try going to a different Bridal Suite that carry that dress and see what they say.
Thanks!

Re: Wedding Dress Size Question
I have heard that wedding dresses are typically ordered two sizes larger than you would normally be. But, your situation sounds a bit overboard to me. I would just get a second opinion.

Re: Wedding Dress Size Question
a lot depends on the designer and their size chart. My dress is pretty much my regular dress size.

Re: Wedding Dress Size Question
I would have them double check...I was in a friend's wedding and we got our dresses at Bridal Suite of Bayshore, and they ordered incorrect sizes for 2 BM's. One was way too small, one was way to big. After all the alterations, the dresses did not look so great on them.

Re: Wedding Dress Size Question
I am also barely five feet tall and wear a size 2. I was surprised when Bridal Reflections ordered my dress in a 6. So thanks for all the explanations! Very informative.

Re: Wedding Dress Size Question
When I got married, I was (in regualr clothes) a size 8 and my dress was a 12.
