wedding dresses?

wedding dresses?

So I've been watching a lot of Say Yes TO The Dress lately and some of the gowns that they have at Kleinfeld's seem ridiculously expensive but with that being said I know that Bridal Gowns are ridiculously expensive.

But still some brides go in to that store with a $1500 budget. I feel that at even a store somewhere on the island you'd have a hard time finding a dress under that budget. I went with my FSIL to get pick out a dress and she got a very plain dress with not a lot going on and the typical WD fabric for $1700 before taxes.

After watching that show and seeing the bridal consultants and how they shove girls into dresses that aren't flattering just to make a sale I would never go in there.

What I'm wondering, for the girls that have bought their dresses already, how much did you spend? What type of dress did you get (fabric and style)? And where did you go? And what's a reasonable price range for dresses in your opinion?

THANKS!! =)

I'm not sure exactly how much my dress was because it was a gift from my mom but I know it was under $1,000. I went to Lillettes in Bellemore and they weren't pushy at all!!! My dress is Maggie Sottero - Jenna.

ETA - I tried to add pics but they're too big, check out my album though

I got my dress for under $1000 from RK Bridal in NYC. They have a TON of options there in that price range and are good quality. When I told the consultant my budget she didn't bring me one over it!

I went to Kleinfelds with a friend who was getting married. She had a lower budget too...i think she told them around $2000. The sales woman kind of laughed at it...ended up that all of the dresses she brought in were $3000 and over. Personally I didn't have a good experience there, however I know there are a lot of girls that have!

Good luck!

I was watching a mini-marathon late last night of SYTTD and every girl that came in with a low budget they would hound till they raised it and even then would still bring them dresses that were way over their budget.

I feel like it puts the bride in a really tough place. For example last night a girl came in with a $4500 budget. A decently large budget in my opinion and the consultant brought her a $7200 dress. That's NOT EVEN CLOSE!! The problem with that was that the girl then LOVED the $7200 dress. Now she was left to figure out how she was going to pay for the dress. She was lucky because her family saw how happy the dress made her and they said they'd help her. But what happens if they do that to you and you really have no way of affording it. That just seems mean. Why should a person go broke because consultants can't stick to a budget.

Re: wedding dresses?

I spent $370 on mine and I LOVE it. Personally, I did not want to spend more than $500. I prefer simple chiffon style gowns to big, beaded dresses with trains and all that stuff. For me, it was very easy to find nice dresses in that price range. I think it's just a matter of your taste and what you're looking for.

I was looking for 'mermaid fit made of lace with lots of sparkle' and $1500 or less (I figured I'd consider higher but it all had to be under $2000 including alterations). I went to Adrienne's in Islip and found exactly what I was looking for! Except it was $1900. So I low-balled it, bargained my azz off and got it for $1400 cash or check no tax and free hollow to hem. It's all about the bargaining!!! (pics in album)

My dress before hollow to hem and alterations is $895. It is an aline, with tulle and lace and a lot of bling on top.

I went to Bridal World in Baldwin and they have so many dresses under $2000..that was my budget and ever dress they showed me was well under that.

I also went to Lillette's and they were not pushy but I did not get my dress from them for other reasons

I got mine from David's Bridal. I did not want to go there (was feeling snobby I guess) because I assumed they would not have the perfect dress. I ended up buying the third dress I tried on!

It's an Oleg Cassini lace mermaid style with small beading/pearls. It has a sweetheart neckline. I LOVE MY DRESS!! I call it my 'Jessica Rabbit dress'

It was originally around 1000 or 1100, but I got it during a sale for $800!

Mine is from DB, just under 1K. Its an Oleg Cassini. The fabric is a good quality satin. Its pretty heavy. Pics in my album! Good luck with your search!

Re: wedding dresses?

thats really not true at all. Its the way they edit the show.. they put brides in dresses that the brides want to see. 9 out of 10 times the brides pick them out.

They are not desperate for sales there, they have girls buying 15k dresses all day long!

I went there recently and had an amazing experience. Not only did Randy, the bridal consultant AND the designer tell me that the cheaper dress was 'the one'- but they told me to go have a drink and think about it and they will be there when i get back. Or if i decide not to, they gave me their numbers and told me to call with any questions anytime. I suggest everyone should go for the kleinfeld experience..
But to answer your question, i tried on 4 dresses.. they were from 8-11k. I really don't want to spend that much though!!

Re: wedding dresses?

Which is why i left with nothing! But i printed out pictures of dresses i wanted to try on, and they all happened to be ridiculously priced! So its not the bridal consultants fault i was in those dresses lmao!!
Also when the BC brings out dresses out of peoples budgets- its usually because the bride is SO specific about what they want, and it cant be found in that price range.

Estelle's in FDarmingdale has some nice styles. I looked in 2006 so I don't know how much prices have gone up but back then most I looked at were betw $400 and $900.I saw a coupon fo 10% off recently, maybe today's paper??

I went to Pronovias in NYC and they had a very large collection of reasonably prices dresses. Mine was around $1100...but because I bought on the spot at a trunk show..got it for $950

I highly recommend going there. It was the BEST dress experience...sooo different from typical bridal shops. More personal and less chaotic

I haven't gotten mine yet but I went my best friend to get hers. She got a beautiful dress for $700 at Paradise Bridals. Everyone there was really nice and helpful. You would never think her gown was only $700 cause it was such a nice satin material.

Re: wedding dresses?

My budget was DEFINITELY less that $1500, I didn't really have a hard time finding that. But I also purposely went to stores I heard had good prices... and I was honest & up front with the consultants about my price range.

My dress is Allure style #8605, satin-backed taffeta modified A-line with a lace bottom and Swarovski crystal detailing on the waist and all down the train. $900 at Bridal Elegance. That was a discounted price because they will match & beat an price from any other shop.

I also found LOTS of satin, lace, chiffon, taffeta, etc. for around $1000 at RK Bridal in Manhattan, Lillette's, Bridal World and David's Bridal. I hear Paradise Bridal has good prices too.

It's totally possible to find your dream dress for under $1500. You just have to go to the right stores!

Mine is also from DB and i LOVE it! Its a satin A-line with beading... I got mine for 380$ after taxes. I cant see spending that much money on a dress you can only wear once.

Re: wedding dresses?

I purchased mine from Paradise Bridal which I highly reccommend! Another great place is VIllage Bridal!!

Before tax/alterations, the dress was $1400 but you could definitely find a dress from there for about $1k.

Here's a photo of my dress... it's 'Accra' by Blue by Enzoani.

Re: wedding dresses?

I purchased mine from Paradise Bridal, I worked with Stephanie and she was soo great! I had a pretty large budget, but she was really great about only showing me dresses in my budget. She came to me and told me she had one dress which she thought I would love but it was $500 over my budget but asked me if I wanted to see it. I told her yes, and sure enough it was the one I bought!

Stephanie was great about working with my budget!
