My wedding is September 8, and I'm pretty sure I know exactly which dress I'm going to get, but I wanted to wait a while (until Feb/March) to actually buy it - I wanted to lose a little weight first. I called a bridal boutique today and they said I should come in right away since dresses can take seven months to order - have you guys had the same experience in terms of timeline? I didn't think it would take that long ...

Re: Wedding Dresses
Yes it can take that long and even if you know what kind of dress you want, once you try it on you may change your mind. So I would start shopping now and by the way I'm at Westbury too.
I would start looking now. You can always alter the dress when you lose the weight.

Re: Wedding Dresses
Usually it takes a while but it totally depends on the designer of the dress. It can be anywhere from 2 to 6 months. Start looking at styles now but do consider getting the dress ordered at least 5 months in advance to be safe.

Re: Wedding Dresses
Yes, it usually takes about 6 months but give yourself time in case there is an issue.

It definitely does take that long! I used to work in a bridal salon, and we always recommended that you order your dress 1 year to 9 months away. Anything closer to your wedding date, you run the risk of not having enough time for alterations as well as having to pay a rush fee. I don't mean to scare you, but you need to start shopping ASAP. Dresses can always be altered. And when you do order, most often they size according to your biggest measurement, so while you may lose weight, you may not lose enough inches to order a smaller size. For me, that was my hips, so my dress is big enough to fit my hips, but will need a lot of alts in the waist and bust. Have you tried on the dress that you want yet?

Re: Wedding Dresses
I tried on five dresses yesterday, and I know exactly which one I want - just have to get Mom's seal of approval! A) She's my mom, and B)she's paying for the dress!
We're going back to the bridal salon on Saturday, so I'll definitely order it then :)

Re: Wedding Dresses
The sooner the better especially if it has a lot of detail. I got lucky though and my dress was the sample and I don't have to wait ... I just can't gain an ounce!!

Re: Wedding Dresses
I'd leave a minimum of 6 months.. it depends on the designer and the back log that they have, not just the bridal boutique's policy.

Re: Wedding Dresses
Every dress & place varies. I heard if you order from David's Bridal its alot quicker. Other places take about 6+ months. I would start looking now. I'm getting married in november and started looking right away. I found a dress and ordered it so I should hopefully get it by May.

Try the following places: Bridal World Lilettes Bridal Reflections
I would steer clear of Wedding Center in Commack. I heard very mixed reviews.
Good luck!!!

Re: Wedding Dresses
I thought maybe they were just saying buy now for money, but after being told by 5 salons before January, thought this must be a fact also asked the girls on LI wedd and they said the same, to avoid rush charge do it early!
