Re: Wedding Etiquette
usually the guest that was initially invited pays for both shares of the gift.

Re: Wedding Etiquette
ooohhh, that's tricky. Do you know the bride and groom? Maybe if you feel that you need to chip in soemthing you could offer a small amount (especially if you dont know the bride and groom) and ask your friend to put it towards the gift....? Years ago, before I was dating FH, I went to a wedding and took a 'date', not a bf or anything, and did not ask him for any money towards the gift, even though he said let me give something. I felt weird taking it bc he had only met the bride once.

Re: Wedding Etiquette
When FH was invited to a wedding I paid for both shares. (Actually he technically paid because it was on his charge but I did the legwork at Fortunoff's getting the registry, picking out the items & getting them gift wrapped)

I think it's up to you. Personally, I would let the friend pick up the expense. But if you feel funny about it (which I don't think you should), talk with your friend.
FH and I used to have a rule - if it was his friend, he paid and vice versa.
That being said... have tons of fun at the wedding!

That was our rule...your friend your dime....even when i brought a friend or a date I'd pay since i invited that guest.

This is what I originally thought. Do I have to have this conversation with her, or just show up and not discuss at all and rely on her to handle it?
Thanks everyone for your input!

I would have a conversation with her about it. Can't hurt.

Me too.
I think that the person invited gives the gift. I don't think the guest is obligated to chip in.

I agree - if you are questioning it, then why not ask? But be prepared if she asks you to go in on the gift.

Re: Wedding Etiquette
It depends on how well you know the B&G. What would she give if she were going solo? You could offer to chip in but maybe not give as much. Ask her what she wants to do.
