Wedding Etiquette

Wedding Etiquette

I just got an email from the knot with 'Bad Wedding Etiquette Comebacks' and they went through all the typical rude things people say to you when you are engaged. Pretty funny stuff, but I have found that LOTS of people have opinions and something about weddings makes them feel inclined to share!

My favorite is 'When are you going to have kids?'

Also, my ring is a smaller diamond than a lot of women like, and I have had some people be outright RUDE when they look at it. A snobby family friend actually rolled her eyes at it. The funny thing is that I picked it out! I love my ring, and I didn't want a large diamond. Small was my preference!

Have you encountered any rude questions?

Why are you getting married late in June, its gonna be so hot?

Why does it have to be one wedding at a time?

My mom's sister is a nasty bword sometimes, and her response to my wedding date was 'that date doesn't work for us.'

*headdesk*

Yes, she said it. My Mom said 'well it's not your daughter's wedding, so it doesnt have to work for you then.'

lol

OMG!!!! mine is Why is your wedding in long island? couldn't you have picked something closer.

My answer: well long island really is not that far. And family can go to newburgh to visit so and so and work it out why can't family work it out to go to Long Island.

Another is Why is your wedding on a Friday? Saturday is much better.

My answer: Well FH and I are paying for this wedding. Unlike everyone elses wedding that had family pay for it, we are not doing that so we looked for a day that was convenient for us and not everyone else! UGH!!!!

and we wanted a Friday but couldn't do it because we are Jewish. FH and I are not religious, but everyone and their uncle would have complained and my Mom said it would be awful to have it on a Fri! Really? I dont see the huge deal but again, I really dont follow the religion.

I'd want to hug your mom the second she said that.

Why is your reception in NJ?
My answer: Well the church is in Westchester and it's only 30mins from the Church to RH, so it would be longer if we went to LI, etc.

Why on a Friday?
My answer: Well it's a substantial amount more to have it on a Saturday night, but if you're willing to pay for the difference then maybe I'll consider moving it to a Saturday.

THIS!!!

I got so stressed when people kept telling me you should get married this year! There was no way we could have saved enough money to get married this year and I didn't want to compromise on things I want. And the NERVE of them to be disappointed when I said I wanted to do it in 2012. Someone actually me questioned me why?! How about 'Wow, that's great! Can't wait for your big day!' Some people

'Oh good! That will be so convenient for ____!'

Riiiight, because that's EXACTLY why I chose my RH.

Oh, and FH and I have been engaged since May 2009 and didn't book our RH until recently. So we've been getting 'did you set a date yet?!' for the past two years. SO annoying.

Omggg I give you so much credit, we were engaged a month before we set our date and that is ALL I heard from people!!!!!!

Now the main question is 'why are you waiting so long?'

Pricks.
