Wedding Etiquette

I just got an email from the knot with 'Bad Wedding Etiquette Comebacks' and they went through all the typical rude things people say to you when you are engaged. Pretty funny stuff, but I have found that LOTS of people have opinions and something about weddings makes them feel inclined to share!

My favorite is 'When are you going to have kids?'

Also, my ring is a smaller diamond than a lot of women like, and I have had some people be outright RUDE when they look at it. A snobby family friend actually rolled her eyes at it. The funny thing is that I picked it out! I love my ring, and I didn't want a large diamond. Small was my preference!

Have you encountered any rude questions?

The Knot

Here is a link to the article...it is kind of silly, but it got me thinking. There are lots of books about wedding etiquette for brides, but there should be one for families and friends. :)

I have the opposite problem with my ring. It belonged to FHs grandmother and Im not trying to sound obnoxious but it s a larger diamond. People look at it and and are immediately like: 'oh what does FH do?' It makes me very uncomfortable.
They best part is that I make more money than he does! And its really not that much lol

Also when it comes to favors - some people do not understand why some girls will CHOOSE to do a donation for a good cause instead of some stupid little $3 junk that gets thrown out in the garbage the second the guest gets home... People are ridic. sometimes!!!

Why are you getting married in March, your wedding will be horrible because of the weather. Yes she actually said 'horrible'.

I get why are you getting married on a Saturday night, you could save so much money by getting married on a friday or sunday.

Why are you waiting so long to get married

I've also gotten, 'Your ring is nice for you, but I would want bigger'... that one really pissed me off!

I think any comment about the size or cost of someone's engagement ring is beyond rude!

ooo I remember a few other goodies I've heard

1- my grandmother, who is NOT by any means your sweet grandmother. Especially to me since I'm one of the last grand children. When I told her I was engaged her reaction was 'does this mean I have to buy a new dress?' - wow I had nothing for that one.

And

2- I'm a very DIY bride so when people hear my list of stuff I'm doing they say 'oo is it cause you don't have the money' , umm no I have the money and I would like to keep the money that's why!

Another one I have gotten (though I bet I'm not the only one): Why are you wasting your money on one day? You should buy a house.

Umm, last time I checked most weddings don't cost 300k+

We were litlerally engaged for 15 minutes when we were first asked if we set our wedding date yet. Really??!!
We get a lot of comments regarding how long your engagement is. Our response is, unless you are donating to the wedding fund keep your opinions to yourself...

Besides the whole ' why are you waiting so long?' the only annoying and rude comments I have gotten have been from my mom. She is so annoyed we aren't getting married at my childhood church and has said just about any bad thing you could ever imagine about getting married at the SC. She also has a huge issue with the Friday night. She actually brought up multiple times how hard it is going to be for the ladies she works with to get there. Now they are very nice women HOWEVER I am not spending 30 extra a head so they can be on time!
