Ok, I'm very naive. What exactly happens at a wedding expo?

I went ot the one at the Marriot last nite in Uniondale. Since I am not getting married until next year I was really interested in talking to photographers. I met one of the ones I was interested in meeting so it was successful for me. Marnles, the wedding expos are generally a gathering of wedding vendors (photographers, video co, DJ's, florists, favors, etc). They give out their cards and give you information about their services. The one last night had a DJ and a band perform as well as a fashion show.

Christine basically summed it up except she left out the details about how every vendor approaches you whether you`re interested or not and drags you into a fifteen minute sales pitch about how their services are better than the competitor`s, how they have some magic gimmick that makes them the best in the industry, blah, blah, blah...:) No, seriously, I LOVED Wedding Expo`s while I was planning because it made me feel like I had an outlet for my obsession...wedding planning. Plus, I liked spending an evening with my mom enjoying the fashion shows, watching the bands, munching on the free h`dorvres. Alot of the shows were admittably boring. Especially the fashion show that was put on by the Wedding Center of Commack. Yes, seeing the gowns was great but hearing that Bob dude rattle on all night was a bit much. I think my mom wanted to stab him on more than one occasion:) Alot of the shows give away free Wedding publications (which if you purchased on the bookstands cost big $$$). There is also alot of giveaways, sweepstakes, contests, etc. I think in total, I collected from contests at various shows a set of luggage, Mikasa crystal, $50.00 off my favors, a free 8 passenger limo, a 24 rose centerpiece, and $50.00 off my tuxedo rentals. Not a bad take for doing something that took little effort and I actually enjoyed. One show was at Southwind Caterer`s and they offered a full blown reception dinner, DJ/Dancing and an auction (you won fake $$$ to bid with by visiting different vendors). It was an absolute blast! Some were more entertaining than others but overall, none of them were a waste. You always walked away with something even if it was a ball point pen or a a plastic tamborine to give to your niece or nephew. I highly suggest them if you`re totally into wedding planning, otherwise you`ll find them lame. The Great Bridal Expo is the best. Check it out and good luck.
