FutuerMrsC, do you have a theme? Is there something that you or FH love? I would tap into that and get something that reflects your personality.

Examples:
If the two of you love cooking and everyone knows it, give something cooking related (there are soooooo many cute cooking related favors out there)

If you enjoy wine, wine favors, such as wine stopper, wine charms, bottle openers.

If you are artistic, you could give photo coasters.

good question!!
Well i love wine, but like I said, my sister is doing that for her wedding in sept, and she will have my head if i do that!!

I love to cook, and everyone knows it. The cookbook with everyone's recipes in it sounds like a great idea, so I'm going to look into something like that. It depends on the price though.

I REALLY like the idea of donations. However, coming from and italian family (and FH too) italians expect a favor (it's in their blood!). I;m just sick and tired of the crystal crap, the porcelin flower favors, the little espresso cups!! EVERYONE in my family that has gotten married has done all of that, and I just don't want it lol!! No offense to anyone who's doing it lol I mean some of that stuff is beautiful, but I guess my point is that it lost originality in my family, and is very expected.

I LOVE candles, so that's another option.

Re: wedding favors

LMAO, I am marrying an italian so I know what you mean. His family calls it 'the boost'. They were saying that one time they went to a family wedding and the bride and groom didn't give a favor. One of the guests got really pissed and started yelling, 'WHERE'S THE BOOST?!?!?' terrible.....

Hmmm...this is italian...they have one that says cucina italiano, too...but I assume you will have guests that are not italian.

Re: wedding favors

Are you 100% italian? As in...does your family speak italian? If not, espresso cups would be a nice gift. If you are hardcore italian, then most guests will probably have espresso cups. I would love to give this, but FH's family all have like 100 espresso cups, lol.

If you are interested in this, FM me...I found a great site that have really nice ones...and not too expensive, either.

100%, both of us. My family speaks it, his family does a little, but not like my family. we have espresso cups coming out the a$$, so that's not going to work lol!

I saw this on one of the websites, and I actually like that. I was thinking about that too.

Here are some that I bookmarked for my MOH to consider giving for my shower ;) They aren't that expensive, but maybe an idea will come to mind when you look at them....or maybe you can find something that is better quality. I think the salt and pepper shakers look very elegant....

Are you looking for favors that are european looking? or do you not care? I got a european favor one year...it's a vase and it's the only favor I ever kept b/c it looks like it cost them 20 bucks, but I saw it online a few weeks ago for like 7 bucks.

I saw that too, i know what you're talking about, but 7 bucks is a little much I think. or maybe not, i don't know. I don't really know how much i want to, or have to, spend yet either.

I am a little cliche but I am doing wine bottle stoppers.. I am also doing wine glass charms too though so each couple will get two favors..I really liked the charms but I thought it was too small by itself and the stoppers are on sale for super cheap so I am gonna throw that in there too!

edited to say i put pics in my album because I couldn't fit them on here..

Re: wedding favors

I just decided today what my favor is going to be.

I'm going to do a donation to Little Shelter in Huntington. They're no kill, and they offer lots of different programs and services. Adoption, sanctuary, cemetery, bereavement classes, etc. They provide cards for wedding donations, but I may do one through Vista Print separately to use personal pictures. There's many different types of donations...can either be a sponsorship, a memorial, or just a cash gift. The way it was explained to me for the wedding favor donation, they take the money to sponsor one cat and one dog for a year, for all its food, medical, toys, shelter, etc.

I'm going to ask that the donation be made in Angel's name...he would have wanted to help another animal have a good, loving environment. He didn't complain (much) when we would give treats and food to the outdoor cats that would come around, so it just feels like it's the right thing to do.

O wow Ali, thats such a great idea!!!!! FH and I wanted to do shot glasses... BUT I've been to a couple of weddings and lets just say- I was too tipsy that I didnt even grab the wedding favor at the end of the night. It's like I wanted the shot glasses, but I think it might be better to donate to an animal shelter. Can you tell me more about the Little Shelter in Huntington? How much do you have to donate? Do we have to order cards that say we decided to donate instead of having favors?? Im really unsure about all of that

Same here, I really wanted to do these coffee cup candles because FH and I met at Starbucks, but the first time Angel got sick I decided to do a donation to an animal organization. I was going to do ASPCA, but now that Angel has passed, I don't want the implication to seem that he was abused in any way, shape, or form, so I asked my coworker who also lost her cat recently and is very involved with animal charities, and she suggested Little Shelter.

http://littleshelter.com/

Here's their website...there's a section for donations. I called up though for clarification, and spoke to Arlene at extension 206, who is in charge of donations. There is no minimum amount for donations, it can be as much or as little as you feel comfortable giving. They provide greeting cards that are personalized with your names and wedding date. The front of the card has all of your information and why the donation is being made, and the inside of the card has the cat on one side, and the dog on the other that the donation will be sponsoring. Then the back of the card says a little bit about the shelter and what they do.

The only reason I was debating doing my own card instead is because I wanted to do more of a memorial type donation with personal photographs, not just have a standard card. But she said that we can make an appointment to come in to discuss it further and see the card in person...I told her I just wasn't ready to be in the building just yet, but in a few months I would check it out.

So check out the site and see if it's something for you...I would love it if even one other person did this because of my post

Thank you for letting me know! I think it's a great idea and even FH liked it!! I think we might do North Shore because FH got his older dog from there years back. I'm actually really excited about this. I think it would mean more to me to have my money put towards good use instead of shot glasses that half of the people at my wedding might not even take home with them. Great idea Ali, thank you!!! But do you think people would be like 'Why an animal shelter and not something to do with cancer reserach or something?'

To be perfectly blunt (obviously the 'anger' stage is starting to set in), I could give two effs less if anyone questions why I chose an animal shelter over something to help humans. I loved my cat more than most PEOPLE. An animal is sweet, and innocent, and loves you unconditionally...even though they are the first ones to be neglected. So for me...I'm more inclined to help out the underdog(cat) and donate to a shelter. There's plenty of other heroes out there for people...so I'll be the hero for an animal.

If that came out a little harsh, I don't mean it towards you at all, you know that. I just get angry at the way that some people would think like that
