I have a friend who is getting married in Washington DC this weekend but I could'nt make it to the wedding because of work. We were friendly in college, but not too friendly, I was actually surprised I got invited to the wedding at all. Now I am wondering how much I should send as a gift if we aren't going? I know her family is really wealthy, but Im a poor grad student and just dont have a lot of money to give, especially since we aren't that great of friends. All the stuff on her registry has already been bought so I can't even cop out and get her an actual gift. What would you ladies do? How much would be appropriate without looking cheap?

Re: wedding gift help needed
it's so hard to say.
my FH hasn't spoken to a HS friend in 7 years. 4 weeks before this guys wedding we were sent an invitation and the wedding is 6 hours away from where we live....it was pretty obvious FH was just a fill in guest or whatever. I mean 7 years without a word and then a wedding invite? We still sent $50 and a card. I don't know if that was the right decision, but oh well!
Maybe that story helps? haha

Hmmm..this is tough since everything on the registry is already bought.
Can you maybe get something from another store and have it sent? I mean people can always use towels and bed linen.

That's tough... you'd think you could get off easier by buying a gift but then you have to think about shipping it and all that. I would say anywhere from $50-$100 would be a generous gift for not attending a wedding.

Oh this is hard...I guess $100...even though that is a lot especially since you aren't close anymore... or you can even get her a nice wedding frame from Hallmark...they have really nice ones that are not too expensive. It is not like you have to cover the cost of a plate.

Thanks girls! I ended up getting her a wedding frame with a memory box. Kohls was having a big sale so I got it for half off which was awesome. I just hope she likes it...
