my cousin is getting married in march and is having two ceremonies and receptions one on friday and one on saturday. He is marrying an Indian girl, so one will be an American ceremony and one will be a hindu ceremony...
With my wedding coming up I can't afford to give more than I would for one wedding... but is that okay???
It's in Louisiana - they're both from the south...
what would be a good gift to give? help please!!

Re: wedding gift question - 2 ceremonies & receptions
I think that is perfectly ok, I wouldn't expect people to bring two seperate gifts to each. They're celebrating the same thing, it's just that there's is a whole weekend long, instead of one night.

I think you should give what you would ordinarily give at a single NY wedding... there's no way anyone would expect two gifts to be given, and given that the wedding is in the south, it probably costs less than a wedding here, so giving the amount you give here won't be a terrible strain on you financially, but will be a little boost for them...
does that make sense?

I have been to weddings where there has been more than one ceremony and reception. I have given one gift.

its deifnatly OK to give 1 gift... i would NEVER expect 2 if we had 2 separate ones...
I always give monetary gifts for weddings. I would just give them the card on the 1st night.

I totally agree with my date twin... just give what you would give to a NY wedding.

Re: wedding gift question - 2 ceremonies & receptions
i think one gift is fine...but just a thought...maybe you can find out if there is a 'traditional' gift given at the Indian ceremonies? Like, let's say people always bring a gift of fruit (i am making this up), but it would be kind of cool if you could do something inexpensive like that for the one and show you put some thought into it as well?
here's some more.. Q: My Hindu friends are getting married. What sort of gift should I give? A: The traditional gift at an Indian wedding is money. The amount should be an 'auspicious' number ending in 1 -- $11, $21, $51, $101, $201, $501, etc. (or similar numbers in rupees, pounds, or what have you). Cash or a check is fine.
However, outside of India most Indian couples understand that giving money can be considered tacky and they don't expect it from their non-Indian friends. They've embraced the western tradition of giving housewares as gifts and many couples register at department stores. So the better answer is: give what you would give at a non-Hindu wedding.

Re: wedding gift question - 2 ceremonies & receptions
Hey,
I'm indian bride and i'm doing a hindu ceremony on a friday night and the reception on Saturday night. You are totally not expected to bring gifts to both ceremonies/receptions!
The two day ceremony/reception is just for convenience a lot of times (you can't have meat the day you do the hindu ceremony so the reception is usually done the day after so that you can serve whatever you want)
Just think of it as one really long wedding celebration

I think it will be perfectly fine for you to give only one gift, but attend both receptions. I'm sure your cousin and his FW dont expect any of their guests to give 2 gifts.
