FH's friends did a very private DW last month...NOBODY was invited. They knew they were doing that so they threw a huge engagement party last year in lieu of a reception. Now they are having a very informal bbq in celebration of their wedding. When the bride told me about it, she said 'No Gifts! We just want to have a party.'
We received the invitation, which is very informal on computer paper, but it does not indicate they do not want gifts. I feel I need to bring a gift. Should I give money or a gift from their registry? How much should I give/spend?

Re: Wedding gift question
Wedding invitations never mention gifts - whether it says 'no gifts' or 'in lieu of gifts...' etc. If the bride specifically told you no gifts, that means they don't want gifts. If you feel uncomfortable going empty-handed buy something off the registry or bring something to contribute to the BBQ. Homemade potato salad or something... HTH!

Agreed. If she said no gifts i think that something for the BBQ is a great idea. If you feel compelled to give more, you can always get them something off the registry for their new home (housewarming gift) and give it at a later date. HTH

If she said no gifts, she probably means it - I know when I say no gifts I mean it and it would make me feel bad if people DID bring them. I don't know if I would have put it on the invite if I told everyone already. Can you find out a charity they like and donate in their name?? That is something that even if I say 'no gifts' would make me happy! If you really feel you want to bring something, maybe something small off their registry, or maybe something they can use at the BBQ like serving platters or like Michelle said a bottle of champage or wine...

I agree. Or a nice bottle of wine or something. If she said NO GIFTS, she means it.

I think this is a great idea...so, if they really didn't want gifts, you're just contributing to their bbq. If they were expecting something, you've go that covered with the glasses, and maybe some wine charms

I would def bring a bottle of wine (changing from my org post of gift from registry) or even two bottles of wine, one red and one white, bring something you like and say you wanted to share your favs with them. Whenever i go to someone's house for a party or dinner we always bring wine, so its something they can either use then or later and it allevates the feeling that you came empty handed.
