Wedding Gift Question

So my very good friend is getting married 2 weeks before me(June 11) and we will both be in attendance at each other's weddings.

I feel like we are just going to exchange the same checks in cards! Would it be odd to say to her, 'hey, let's just exchange cards since we are both paying for weddings- I won't give you a gift and you don't give me a gift?'

PS. FH thinks it is brilliant and has already said this to his friend that is getting married a month before us (Memorial Day weekend). They totally agreed

That's funny because I was thinking about the same thing with my FSIL who is getting married 7 weeks before me and FH ( her brother). I felt weird about saying anything, but now I'm gonna ask FH to see what he thinks.
