Wedding Gifts

Original post by FallBride2010

Now that you are planning your own wedding...have you changed your thoughts on the amount you give people when you attend a wedding? I'm starting to realize it's not that easy to cover your plate when people are paying $160 pp. But I'm probably going to start giving people a bit more than I used to.

i give what i can at the time the wedding is. i am not ashamed to give what we can afford. however if i am in the bridal party i give less because it costs me more. also if someone has an e-party, bridal shower, wedding & then a baby shower in less then 2 years i give less here too.

i don't exactly agree with covering your plate or depending on what place the wedding is held at.

a bride on here opened my eyes to that. You being the guest, is it your 'problem' if the bride and groom pick one of the most expensive places such as Oheka Castle? So b/c it's there, you would throw let's say $400 pp so $800 for you and FH? No I don't think so. So whether the bride and groom have it at a VFW or OHeka they're getting what I can afford. The place makes no difference to me

That point I totally agree with. Just b/c they can afford it doesnt mean we can. I was more talking about the average wedding and realizing that $300 doesnt cover a couples plate anymore. But to your point...how much can you really give as a wedding gift??11

I give what I can afford. If it's my FHs/friend relative he will give what HE can afford... It's at least 100.00 per plate.

But I don't expect my friends/relatives to cover their plate if they can't afford it. It's a GIFT. I want them their to share in my wedding. Any money I get afterwards is gravy -- the wedding will already be paid for.
