Wedding Gown Loaner Program?

Has anyone done this?

There's a gown I love, Essence of Australia D916, but no place has it in stock. Essence of Australia is only carried on LI at Beautiful Bride in Lynbrook and the Wedding Center in Commack. Neither of the two stores have that particular gown in stock.

BUT, both told me that they do a loaner program, where for $50, they can have the gown shipped in and I can try it on. If I don't like it, they can send it back. If I do like it and purchase it, the $50 can go towards my gown payment.

Has anyone had any experience with this? Do you think it's worth it? I'm worried about paying the $50 (while in the grand scheme of things it's not much) and not liking the gown.

Here's a pic:

Re: Wedding Gown Loaner Program?

is there any place in maybe Queens or near LI that carries it that you'd be willing to travel to? Maybe the bridal stores can have you try on dresses that are similar in style if you dont want to go the loaner route.

Re: Wedding Gown Loaner Program?

According to the designer's website, the only other two stores are in the Bronx or Saratoga Certainly not driving to Saratoga, and I'm not quite sure if I want to trek out to the Bronx for a gown either.

Re: Wedding Gown Loaner Program?

Have you tried on other gowns yet? I know there were quite a few dresses I had really liked in magazines or on websites, but when I actually tried them on, they just weren't for me. My actual wedding dress turned out to be a dress I probably would never have even looked twice at in a magazine.

Go shopping, try on a bunch of different styles, even ones you might not be too crazy about on the hanger. If you still find yourself really wanting this dress, go for it.

Also, check out Maggie Sottero's site, I bet you may be able to find a similar gown by her.

I haven't yet. I'm starting on the 26th. Actually there are a TON of Maggie's that I want to try on. But I really wanted to at least try this one on too.

Re: Wedding Gown Loaner Program?

If they have this gown at the store in the Bronx, go there...it's as simple as that. The Bronx is not far...

IMO, i would not pay 50 bucks to try a dress if they had it elsewhere that is close.

Re: Wedding Gown Loaner Program?

Also, bring that picture with you anyway when you go shopping. Even if the store does not carry that particular dress, they'll be able to pull similar styles for you to try on.

Re: Wedding Gown Loaner Program?

Grrrrrr......I called the place in the Bronx. They don't have it either.

I'm thinking I may just have to suck it up and pay the $50 to try it on. I don't want to not try it on and then always keep wondering.

I would bring the picture with you to assorted wedding boutiques and try on something similar. Make sure the style is right for you.
Like someone above said, that style might not suit you.
I know there was a style I liked, in magazines, that when I tried on was horrid on ME.

$50.00 isn't a lot... but when you're paying for a wedding, every cent counts.

Re: Wedding Gown Loaner Program?

I would call Gowns by Louise (thats the store in the bronx) to see if they have it. i went by on a whim one night (no appointment) and they were really nice and sweet.

its not far from the throggs neck/whitestone bridges and there is street parking. if you know you like it, then you can just order it at whatever store you want.

good luck!

ETA: sorry. saw your post above.

ITA. I fell in love with a gown online and when I tried it on I hated it! Don't waste the money. Try on other gowns first. If you keep coming back to this one, then you can pay to try it on.
