Wedding Gown - Need opinions

Original post by lilnikki85

Im having a dilemma with my mother and I was just wondering who all of you went shopping with for your wedding gown...did any of you invite your future mother-in law? Do you think it is appropriate to invite her?

I did my dress hunting in NY, and FMIL was 1000 miles away so it wasn't an issue. I think I'm going to offer to go dress hunting with FMIL for her own dress, since she doesn't have any daughters. (Plus, to keep an eye on things since she's never been to a NY wedding)

i only did the bm's once and the rest of the time was with my mom or just myself. I think too many people = too many input/advice and it really is about what you like.

I went the first time with my mom, the second time with my FMIL and FSIL and the third time with my mom *she was sick the second time : ( *

i think it gets confusing when you have too many opinions floating around. plus, people tend to pressure you into buying something that you may not like. i would suggest going with one or two people. but ultimately, you should love it...not them.

It's really up to you. You should take someone who matters to you. You can also pick the dress first and than just show ur mother in law to see what she thinks about it.

heh, I went with DH he's the only one who will give me a completely blunt opinion... and frankly, his opinion is also the only one that counted

I went with my sister and bm, and the next time with my mom. Frankly...it was confusing even with 3 people's input. They all have different tastes. My bm and sister agreed with me on my choice, but my mom didn't. It was hard, but in the end, you have to go with what you like, and feel comfortable in. I didn't ask FMIL...we don't really see or talk to eachother much. But, if we were closer, I definitely would have asked her to go.

I didn't invite my FMIL shopping for the dress. I went with my mom, an aunt, my MOH and another close friend at different times.

I plan on inviting my FMIL for a fitting. I think it is a nice gesture to include them in the process somehow.

I have gone a few times and FMIL went 4 out of 5 times. She wont be going this week coming up though. I thought it would be nice to have her included.

When I went dress shopping it was just my sis/MOH and a BM (mom's not so into these kind of things ). FMIL kept asking about the dress and I decided to ask her if she would like to come with me to try it on when it comes in and she was absolutely estatic. It can be a great gesture to your FMIL

I took my FMIL with me, as well as my Mom. Being FMIL doesnt have a daughter, I thought this is the only time shes gonna get to do this, you know.

I didn't ask my mother-in-law for any advice along the way. FH deals with her. Actually, my parents did not contribute to the wedding planning, either. Neither parents know anything about weddings, so their advice would not be helpful.
