Ok, so I'm pretty new to the wedding planning scene. Everyone tells me you can bargain bargain bargain and get great deals. Well, I went to a place (I won't mention the name just yet). They wouldn't bargain AT ALL with us on the 9/22/07 Sat. wedding date. Now, here's my dilemma.
We could get married on 9/22/07 with a 7:30 cocktail hour. I think that's a bit late. Our other option is the Sunday before Columbus day weekend. We would be able to have the cocktail hour at 5PM which isn't that bad because everyone will be going home around 10. Most of our guests would have off the next day but there are a few who wouldn't be. My FH and I really want to get married at this place.
Should we go look at one more place that is equally as nice, but may not be as cheap or have the dates available. OR should we just book the place we really want, and which date?
HELP!!!

Book the place you really want if you can afford it.

Re: Wedding Hall dilemma
Well if you TRULY DEEPLY love it..then book it!!! The more you think about it the more you dont do it and then some one else will book it. As for which date..I would go with the Sun. after Columbus day...first off...leaving at 10pm isnt too bad..and secondly..the majority of your guest WILL have the day off...if not.those who cant stay that late can leave the reception early. Re: Wedding Hall dilemma
I dont think a 7:30pm cocktail hr is too late. I went to one that started at 8:00pm and yes that was a bit late!! If you have your heart set on it, then go with it

Re: Wedding Hall dilemma
I went to three halls.
The last hall I went to was the one I really really wanted my wedding at.. I got a quote from the first two, walked into the place I really wanted and said this is what I have been quoted so far and the banquet manager discounted me and gave me freebies and came in at the lowest price of the first two.. So I got the place I wanted.. But if you walk in with backup, your bound to be happy!

I would book the hall you really love. Between the 2 dates I would do 9/22 with a 730 ch... I don't think 730 is late at all, its a sat night.

Re: Wedding Hall dilemma
We went to about 5 halls already and there was only one we REALLY liked. Has anyone heard of Leonard's of Great Neck? I might go look at that one tonight to see what they'd do for us. I'm torn though because I don't know if I should look at it. If I do, it might confuse me more, if I don't I might regret not going and checking it out.

I would look at any hall you might be interested in. Make sure you are completely in love with your hall and that you can't imagine it to be anywhere else. I would check it out. Its beautiful.

Re: Wedding Hall dilemma
You already know how I feel about it, but...
If you think you might regret not looking at Leonards, then go. It may confuse you more at first, but in the end you will know which place is your dream hall. But if you really love this first place, then go for it. I think either day is fine (sat at 7:30 is not too late) and the sunday before columbus day will be good also. Good Luck!

Re: Wedding Hall dilemma
7:30pm cocktail hr is NOT too late --- My wedding starts at 7 and the cocktail hour starts at 7:30 on Saturday night in March (very dark outside by that point!).
The party will go on until 12:30 and I expect to leave around 1 AM......if people have to leave early, they will no matter what.

Re: Wedding Hall dilemma
Both times are good because the 7:30 start is a Saturday night and the 5PM is a Sunday. So go with the one you really, really want.

Re: Wedding Hall dilemma
Well, when picking my place we thought that 7:30 was too late and gave too much time between church and cocktail hour for a saturday night so we went with a hall that would give us a 6:30 CH start time. We have a lot of kids attending which was also part of the earlier start time motivation. It turned out that we loved the place we ended up with before we knew about the 6:30, that was just an added bonus.
In my opinion, look at one more place and then if you feel the 7:30 is too late then go for the 5pm on Sunday. Even if people do not have off the next day, your event being over with around 10pm is really not late at all and can accomodate a lot of people.

Re: Wedding Hall dilemma
Most places won't bargain much for a Saturday night since they can fill those dates easily...but, they will throw things in. When my hall wouldn't lower the price, I asked what they could do. I wound up with about $700 or more worth of add ons for free

Re: Wedding Hall dilemma
I wanted one place and the negotiating was not very good on their part. I found the Watermill that was a litte less expensive and willing to work with me for the same Sat night in April. I fell in love with the place and forgot about my original hall.
