We are deciding on either getting married late december '03, jan '03 or april '04. I don't want to go over $25,000, is that possible?
I am looking to have about 90-100 people.
I figure I can't to spend more than $115 per person on a reception, including tax & grats. I live in Brooklyn and my fiance lives in Staten Island, I guess we could travel like 30-40 min for reception. I was looking online at The Liberty House in NJ and the Water's Edge in LI City and Loft Eleven do you think those would be in my price range? I would be willing to do a Sat afternoon..
Any other money saving tips, ideas, vendors would be appreciated

Re: Wedding in NYC for around $25,000
Stef- yeah, it's crazy, they charge by the hour. I don't remember exactly but it's like $500 per hour, or $250 per hour with a $1,000 set-up fee, something like that. We came out with $2,000 for 6 hours - a 4 hour party and 1 hour set-up, 1 hour clean up.

You can do it, but I would stick to a DJ over a band. That is definitely something that has pushed us upwards. I am also going to suggest looking in NJ, b/c the rates there are definitely lower and so are the taxes. If you're interested, you may want to try either Primavera Regency, Richfield Regency, or the Tides, they're all about $70-$80 per person, before taxes and gratuitites. And if you figure 100 people, you'll have $15K to spend on everything else.
when I was looking, they were redoing the Otto Kahn Mansion on Central Park East...granted that was 2 years ago...but I thought the price was $115/pp...but that might have been b/c they were remodeling...
link theres another mansion on this page...don't know anything about it...but might not hurt to ask...
You also have to think of your budget. Make up a draft of what you are willing to spend on certain things. You will be surprised how that helps. We were looking to spend no more then 100 a person for our hall and since we came in so much less then that we applied the money we saved to another item. We wanted to spend max 2500 on photo but because we saved on the hall we splurged on photo and went over the budget a little.
the little details like bathroom basket, menu's, picture frame place cards, flowers for centerpieces we got rid of which in the end is actually saving us money. the money we are saving we are applying to something else. we are going to do floating candle centerpieces and since there is a fantastic outlet in PA we're going to get them from there which is another cost saving item.
Just work on a budget and what you are willing to splurge on and what you are willing to either eliminate or substitute for something else (i.e., instead of floral centerpieces floating candle centerpieces)
We're getting married on a Saturday night in September of 2004 and we are spending a lot less then 115 p/p and getting so much for our price. We're doing a sit down dinner, open top shelf liquor, we get an ice sculpture, mini vianesse table and so much food.
FM me if you want more details about that.

Try the brentwood country club. My brother is getting married there. Everything is included, from invitations to flowers. They have been paying in payments since they booked the place. It's really nice. You can also take your pictures there also on the golf course I'm really not sure the total price, but I know that they are on a tight budget.

Daisey, have you tried the Grand Plaza in Staten Island. I had my engagement party there and it was incredible, they do a great job. For a Saturday night affair, cocktail hour, premium open bar, sit down dinner, vienesse hour etc came to $95 a head and we had about 150 people.
I think you can do it, but you need to set a realistic budget form the beginning. I had an original bedget in mind, but then when I actually started looking at the cost of things, it was blown out of the water. I also didn't have to get the $1500 dress, I could have gotten a $500 one. It all depends on what you want.
I also wanted the candelabra centerpieces, so they were 30 extra per centerpiece, no i didn't have to ahve them but I really wanted them.
Also you can do non flower centerpieces lika Chippa said.
Good luck!

Re: Wedding in NYC for around $25,000
I know that I dont want an expensive dress and flowers either what ever is in season or some small vases with roses. The only thing that worries me is that my family is a very picky Italain family, and food is important. I want to not spend a fortune but I want the food to be good, my family loves Russo's on the Bay's food, but we've been there so many times I don't want to have my wedding there plus its pricey etc.

You can definitely do it if you rush and plan for December! A friend of mine just booked the Pierre in NYC for a Sat night in November for $100/person! It is usually around $300 pp, but since it is so soon and the date was open... she got lucky! EXTREMELY LUCKY!!! Good luck!

Find a great Italian place in the city. Look in Zagats. Get married in a church or interfaith chapel or other non-religious site, then have great food, good music and enjoy yourself.

You can definitely have a nice wedding on that budget- I read that you should pick the top 3 things that are the most important to you and be flexible with the rest- I dont know of any venues in NYC but on the island you can NEGOTIATE anything- the wedding industry is very competitive- I have found out alot from the internet- I got a good price for stuart manor in Farmingdale that gave me a price of $55 per head and the place is pretty the have the whole 9 yards but I would speak with the owners and not the managers- you can also turn to your relatives and friends for certain things that they may be able to help you with that will save money- I suggest you RESEARCH visit all the expos and talk to people because youd be suprised-I have a much lower budget then you and I am learning alot and staying within my budget- but you may have to compromise on certain things- check out the websites on wedding budgets they can tell you how to save without giving up your dream GOOD LUCK
