I love signing on and reading everyone's post. Eveyone has been very helpful and insightful.
I was curious how everyone deteremined what month/year to get married. My FH and I have been talking and we have FIVE weddings to attend next year. Most importantly his sister in JUNE and my brother in SEPT. The other weddings (friends of ours) are April, July, and one poossibility in SEPT. Ideally we also want SEPT but feel its too close to my brothers not to mention ALL my family is out of state...
Isn't there an unspoken rule that you don't plan your wedding too close to anothers without talking them first?

Re: Wedding Month
Kind of... I think it would be considerate to do so for your family's financial sake BUT if things work out and you get the RH that you want and they give you a great price then there's no real major reason not to do it.
My FH and I are starting grad school next August so we knew we had to do it before then... and then we wanted to make sure we weren't in 'peak' wedding months so that it wasnt too expensive so that brought us into Jan-May and then we chose May because that's the best month to go to where we want to have our HM so that's everything we based it on :)
I hope this helps a bit!!!

Re: Wedding Month
IMO having it the same month as your brother is not to good...if you wedding is 1st he will probably be mad that people came for yours and not his and if it is after you might not have as many of your OOT guest come
I would try and do it away from your brothers just because the same month is too close together and he already has his wedding date

Re: Wedding Month
We decided to work the wedding around our kids school breaks (we have three between us), our regualr family vacation which has now become our family honeymoon, and believe it or not FH's ex-wife had twins last year so we didn't want to interfere with their first birthday celebration. So August it was.

Re: Wedding Month
I would try to keep it away from your brother's. It would be a lot for your family and you said they were OOT too.
Fh and I are teachers so it was the end of July so that I could have some time off before the wedding and some time off for the honeymoon after the wedding! very simple lol

Re: Wedding Month
I'm a teacher and I didn't want to have to deal with getting married and then going right back to work, and it would probably be difficult for me to take my honeymoon right away, they kinda frown upon being out for a week to go on vacation... So thats why we picked July... For your situation, I wouldnt get married the same month as your brother especially since you said you have a lot of out of town people... That would probably force them to choose one or the other instead of attend both... I would do it either a few months before or a few months after

I agree. If your brother is getting married in September, I would probably do it after his since it appears like his planning began before yours. I picked November because I LOVE November. But I wanted to make sure it was BEFORE daylight savings time so we're doing it the day before!

Re: Wedding Month
Thanks everyone for your replies.
Just some added info: My brother and his fiancee have nothing more planned then I do. They got engaged a week before we did (3 weeks ago)
We both understand one of us have to budge b/c its too rude and hectic to ask our familes to travel out twice. I feel I may have to budge b/c they got engaged first, even though it's on a week difference. When we talk about Sept together it's a little awkward, lol
Also, my FH's sister's wedding is in June and already booked. Their family is all local so it's my brother's wedding we have to stay away from. So, if they book Sept and June is already taken.... is early May or late July still too close?
Funny thought: My brother's fiancee is practically my sister and we're very much alike. It's no real surprise we all want the same month. The other day I told her my color scheme and she's like, serious? Surprise, Surpise, she want's the same colors. LUCKILY so far we have different taste in dresses..

Re: Wedding Month
We picked november of 2010 because we didn't want to wait forever to get married, and that we were both getting older, so the sooner, the better. FH let me pick the month, I picked November because it was still fall, which I loved, but was off peak at many halls, so we got to save some money.
As for planning close to a sibling, I don't have any personal experience, but my mother does. She got married like 6 weeks after her brother, and she said the family was kind of annoyed at them. But you know, she still did it anyway, and I think everyone attended both weddings.

Re: Wedding Month
i think i switched my date about twice. The first date was 9/4/11 but someone else we know had that date so i thought it was rude to make people choose whose wedding they would attend so then I chose 5/22. then more drama so i switched it to june which kinda stinks bec it will be while im studying for the bar exam. I know im a genius.
but I love june bec its my bday month haha

Re: Wedding Month
We originally wanted July when we were planning for this year, but then because of financial issues, we had to push back to next year.
FSIL got engaged as we were planning and we found out that she was looking for October 2011 so in order to give her enough space, instead of choosing July again, we moved wedding to May 2011. That gave us about 5-6 months leeway.
Even then, the weddings are still pretty close so we are trying to make them as different as possible. ie: completely different feels to the RH, she wants a Venetian Hour so we will not be doing one, etc.

Re: Wedding Month
i agree with the other posters, i wouldnt do your is sept if that when your brothers is... just thinkt hat half the guests at your wedding will have 2 weddings that month and those who are OOT will most likely not be able to come to both.... i wouldtnt worry about your friends so much as long as its not like right before or right after theirs, i think a month time period in between their is fine, theyre friends not family, and chance are yuoll prob only have a handful of the same guests\
eta: we set our date for novemeber 2010, fsil got engaged and set it for the april before, 6 months difference which i thought was perfect since their siblings

Re: Wedding Month
I was in a similar situation as you, only it was with friends not family. My bff got engaged about three weeks before me and at the time I started planning my wedding she had nothing done but knew she wanted a fall wedding. I ended up moving my wedding back to february- I hated the idea of a winter wedding but didn't want to move it back even further- anyway at the end of the day i am so glad I did! Because don't forget it's not even just the wedding- it's the showers and b parties and helping them plan ect ect...not to mention so many of my friends were relieved ( we have about five weddings this summer/fall)!

Re: Wedding Month
we originally were going to have a May wedding b/c I wanted to get married before I turned 30 so that meant before Memorial day weekend. But for the place that we wanted, they didn't have the week available in May so we pushed it for June. But now I'm glad b/c I'm a June bride!!!
All I know is that I wanted the weather to be warm. That was really important to me!
