Wedding on a tight budget

Original post by tweedy927

Hi All,
I'm new to the site as I just got engaged over Vday weekend.. and am trying to put together an elegant but budget friendly wedding by Aug of this year. We're both native NYers and would love to have it in the city, but everything is sooo expensive!cashmoney:

it would help if we weren't also trying to go for a house. Is it crazy to try to do both?

Opinions please?:

did you look into jersey? if all your guests are in the city; jersey is just a hop; skip & a jump away.

But like everyone else said; definetely start calling around; I'm sure halls still have openings and they'll be wiling to negotiate with you since you're within 6 months!

I have a friend who booked her wedding withing 3 months of the date and got a GREAT deal for a Friday in October. It was at Bridgewater's in Mahattan. It's a beautiful location, she only booked the reception room but had it written in her contract that if the ceremony area was not booked on the date of her wedding she could use it....sure enough, it was free.

Her ceremony had a gorgeous backdrop of the Brooklyn Bridge and city lights. Check them out, see what they have in terms of last minute dates.

Good luck!!!

Definitely check out all-inclusive deals. I know that Leonards and Thatched Cottage have them - like 100 people for $10K. But I think they may only be available in January of the year, definitely not August.
