Can I possibly have my wedding reception at a restuarant rather then have a typical 5 hour wedding? Do restaurants cater to wedding receptions? We are on a very tight budget and looking to not spend too much money but have a fun night!!!

Re: wedding options....
not to sound rude but i think the reason most restaurants are ...well restaurants is because that's what they want to be...instead of a reception hall.....many restaurants have rooms you can rent out for a party but you typically cannot rent out a whole restaurant....they would not want to close their business for something that wont bring them in as much income. If you have over 50 people I imagine it will be very difficult to find a restaurant that would accommodate you in a private room.
Your best bet is probably looking for a hall you can rent out and hiring a separate catering company. If you post about that I'm sure ladies will have recommendations.
Also keep in mind there are many varying price ranges for reception halls out there you just have to look for them.
Another way to cut cost is have your wedding in the off months.
Hope that helps!

Re: wedding options....
You could try restaurants in hotels. A girl I know had her wedding out in the Hamptons; the RD and reception were both in the hotel, which is also where everyone stayed (they had a lot of OOT guests).
They had a back dining room to themselves and dressed it up really nicely; it was a small wedding but had a dance floor and everything. Hope that helps!

Some restaurants have private rooms in the back with a party menu that you could use, but depending on the price per head it may be the same as going with a cheaper reception hall or having an afternoon wedding.
I've been looking at these restaurants for the rehersal with a private room and they could be $50+ per head depending on the place and what you want included (i.e alcohol).

Re: wedding options....
You can have a small one at a restaurant
My reception is actually only 4 hours and a 50 person minimum. Very reasonably priced
I think The View in Northport also has 50 minimum
I've known people that have done their RDs at these places

Re: wedding options....
There are plenty of restaurants which have private party rooms as well where you can have your wedding reception.
FH and I were looking into this as we are on a tight budget as well. You'd be suprised they're not all that much less expensive. We booked ours at a popular hall in March and paying less then any quote we received at a restaurant.

Most resturants have small rooms for private parties, but i don't know whether they jack up the price if you say it's for a wedding and not just a regular party. You'll definitely have to do some calling around to find that out.
Also, if you're looking for a place to have a smaller party, the three village inn in stonybrook would definitely be a place to look.

Re: wedding options....
we rented out the entire Cup Coffee House (in Wantagh) for our engagement party. They have a stage and a bar area. We had about thirty people. It was wonderful (its where we met so it had even more meaning to us). It was also really nice being able to rent out the entire place, so there were no strangers. We had to be done by 5 so they could set up for opening at 6. highly recommended

Re: wedding options....
It depends on how many people you want to have. We actually had a 5 hour party for my shower at Alberto's in Queens and they rented out the whole place to us. Other places have party rooms of various sizes.
If you can give us an idea of your party size and budget we can make suggestions. Chances are there may even be a more traditional reception venue in your price range. But of course, restaurants do weddings all the time. My sister in-law had her small wedding at a restaurant and it was different, but it was still nice and they were very accomodating to us

You absolutely can look into restaurants! I mean it'll be a smaller affair and you might not be able to have all the traditional wedding things (BP entrance, DJ, etc.) but I've seen some beautiful, intimate restaurant weddings!

Re: wedding options....
I just had my parents 40th anniversary party at louies in post washington and when it was all said and done it was $68 a person. my wedding is only costing a little more including tax, although i upgraded so I have to add 20 pp on but there are halls out there that you can find for 60,70 pp. maybe consider moving the date to the end of march, the prices are cheaper for jan, feb and mar.

Re: wedding options....
I am having my wedding at a restaurant - View - in Oakdale (used to be called Riverview). They do one wedding a week, on Saturday afternoons. The whole place is yours for the wedding. They do a traditonal sit down dinner or what they call an extended cocktail reception - a regular cocktail hour and then move into the reception room where the food is set up for the entire time and there is seating for everyone but no 'assigned' seats. There is also an outdoor area for ceremony, and cocktail hour if its nice out. Both types of parties are the same price (and its not reallycheaper than many catering halls - but you can negotiate with them about what will be included. We negotiated the price down and also got sushi bar, raw bar and vienesse hour added in). The price is also cheaper in the off months - November - March.

Re: wedding options....
i think any restaurant will be able to hold a wedding, you may not be able to get prime time sat if its small but then again who knows. Worth a shot asking around. From my experience waitressing I've heard my bosses always say 'weddings are easy money' since they are guaranteed a full room that day LOL

It's your wedding - you can do anything you want!
My friend is getting married in a few weeks and having his reception at La Marmite in Williston Park.

Restaurants would totally accomodate you, especially if they have designated party rooms. Some places might not want to give up their main dining room but that's mostly on Saturday nights. I've been to so many afternoon parties in the main dining rooms of restaurants.
The restaurant Punta Dura in Astoria has a beautiful room and a mini dance floor, if you wanted to have entertainment.

Re: wedding options....
Alot of people prefer to have big receptions with tons of food and a band or dj ... but you have to do what is best for you. A good friend got married last summer at a restaurant inside a bed and breakfast in Massachusetts. The bride and groom didn't want a big wedding with dancing , just not their style. The whole thing was mansion style ( so like a 4 hr cocktail hour) And it was honestly one of the most original and classy weddings I have ever been too.
