After the organizational craziness of my Engagement Party, my FH thinks we should get a wedding planner. I'm not really feeling it, but i'm not totally oppossed to it either. Does anyone have one that they love and would/could recommend? Is it a neccesity??

Re: Wedding Planner: A neccesity or not??...
Check out Ryan from Above and Beyond Events. She is a DOC... Day of Coordinator. I paid $450 because she was running a special promotion... but I think her normal price is $550. I HIGHLY recommend getting at least a DOC. Then you don't have to deal with any headaches or issues should they arise. You don't even have to say good bye to each vendor.... which ultimately means you don't have to leave your wedding reception or stop saying good bye to guests to pay the vendors etc. The DOC takes care of all that. Ryan even made me eat a sandwich before the wedding!! She made me sit down and eat!!
Most DOC's are also there for advice and venting as well. They can definately help you out along the way without the charge and title of a wedding planner.
IMO I don't think a wedding planner is necessary. I don't think you need someone to brain storm ideas and find vendors for you....you specifically Channon. I could see if someone didn't have a vision or was OOT etc. LIW can be your wedding planners!!! haha!!
As far as coordination of things... the DOC can do that for a fraction of the price. They make sure everyone is in line and looks right and is on time, etc. You can also hire them for the Rehearsal as well (if need be).
The prices of DOC's do vary. I found Ryan to have one of the more reasonable prices.
I would also like to add that.... if you are getting married at a hall then the bridal attendant can do a lot of things the DOC would do. BUT it all depends on which hall; sometimes I hear good and bad things about the bridal attendant. All in all I'm a fan of DOC's; not so much wedding planners.
Also know that when you book your hall, they will give you a list of 'preferred vendors'. It's DEFINATELY worth taking a look at. Your hall will also have a banquet manager who can help you out along the way in a lot of ways a wedding planner would. A wedding planner hooks you up with their connections to things... the BM can do the exact same for you as can the DOC.

My friend has a DOC and loves her. She has been helping her out throughout the way as well. She was from Bleu Diamond Events. Her nams is Gina. My friend was not going to get a DOC but won her services from a bridal expo, and is thanking the lord she got her! lol I am looking into it too. I really don't want to spend the $$ but the more I hear, the more I think I should.

for our wedding i dont think its a necessity... FH and I are going to be engaged for about 13 month and that enough time for us to plan things out and book vendors etc. but i guess if u can afford it and itd be easier for u, go for it!!
