wedding planners: do i need one?

We're planning the wedding for May 2010. We already have ideas about certain things as well as the budget we have to work with. My question is, and i'd like everyones feedback, is there a need for a wedding planner? I've got nearly two and a half years to plan.

Its really up to you...Wedding planners can save you money and time, if you choose the right one. Normally wedding planners have close contacts with reliable vendors that will give them a much cheaper price. Also...wedding planners take the stress out of your wedding and the research.

They can put you in the right direction. Not everyone uses one though...its simply based on preference!!!

I dont think that planner is a necessity. I think that if you are someone that can keep on track and make decisions and are capable of negotiating you can do it, if you want to have absolutely no worries i would get one.

I knew that I couldnt make decisions, couldnt keep myself on track and needed help with makin decisions. I used Francesca from Dazzling Affairs and she kept me on a time line and made sure that I did what I was supposed to do.

I agree : ) I began planning my wedding two months ago and I almost have everything taken care of, except for the minor details. I did a lot of research and met with many vendors, but have done it myself.. I also have a full time job, an eleven year old at home, and have been looking for a new job (have been to interviews) as well as planning this wedding

FH and I had a 2 year engagement with 9 months to go. We have done everything on our own and asked a dear friend to coordinate the day of. it will all work out, and everything is our hard work and effort.

good luck in whatever you do!

If you are an organized person and able to look for good deals, etc. you don't need a planner. If you aren't, I think it could definitely be helpful.

i am a huge advocate for DOC for all girls though

I think it is an expense you can spare. Take your time and spread tasks out/ Use the extra $ for upgrades or personal touches!

We didn't have one. If I had extra money...or a whole lot of money...I would.

It does all depend on your personality.
I am a Detail Fanatic.
I had to plan the wedding in less than a year and I wanted some pressure of off 'my day' - it was worth the money spent - they keep you in line w/a budget and do negotiate w/vendors always keeping in mind your vision for a worry stress free process of planning and day of! They also deal w/the legal mumbo jumbo that I could not deal with on the contracts , carefully reviewing each part in your favor you can't imagine things that can go overlooked. When there is an issue too they act like your Second Bridesmaid and take over. A good Planner will be on top of you taking care of many tasks that others can't be bothered with or have NO professional dealings with.

There all different pkges FYI ask about it with a planner.

YOU DONT NEED ONE BUT IF YOU CAN AFFORD ONE IT WILL BE A GOOD HELP BECAUSE THEY KEEP YOU IN TRACK AND ELEVEATE ANY STRESS OF COURSE, BECAUSE RIGHT NOW I AM A FEW MONTHS AWAY AND I AM SOOOOOOOO STRESSED OUT..BUT ITS NOT NECESSARY YOU JUST HAVE TO DO ALOT OF RESEARCH AND TRY TO NEGOGIATE.

I don't think you'll need one...you have so much time to plan it yourself. There are so many internet sites to help you, like this one, you can find vendors easily. And you can use the internet to find pictures and ideas from other people's weddings...that really helped me figure out all the fine details like flowers, colors, programs, etc.

if you have a budget then I would advise no-- that is what the BMs are for, and also you RH can definalty help with setup, etc. of the room. maybe a DOC- depends on how involved your ceremony is and how much you want to spend on pretty much an extra bridesmaid to be there doing all your ittle things for yo. I advise that if you have a large BP and a very helpful RH then you dont need one. But if you are keeping things small and your RH is not involved then yes go for it!

You have lots of time to do your own research and to shop around. I don't think you need a wedding planner, but I would suggest that once you booked all your vendors and gotten all the major stuff done, you should get a day of coordinator for the wedding day itself. I didn't feel as if I needed one either but then when you're busy taking pics, or greeting guests, etc... you'll need someone doing the background work. I.e. - making sure your centerpeices are set up/ made just how you wanted, your other vendors are arriving on time and beign where they're suppose to be etc...

You wont be able to handle these little things on your wedding day on your own, and neither will your bridal party b/c they'll be with you, so getting a DOC for just the day will be money well spent.

I would suggest the girls from exquisite affairs. I just met with Christine and she's so adorable-- plus she has different prices to work within your budget.
