Wedding Planning...and UNEMPLOYMENT?!?!?

Wedding Planning...and UNEMPLOYMENT?!?!?

I just found out yesterday that my company is downsizing and they advised us to start looking for something else 'just in case.' (thanks for the heads up!)

Me and FH are paying for 90% of the wedding and now I'm stressed for the future!

Any one recently unemployed? Has it hindered your planning?

I'm so sorry to hear about that! It's horrible to have that kind of stress on you esp with trying to plan a wedding. I am hearing that things are picking up though so try to stay positive!!

My fiance lost his job and, due to his visa issues - he had an L-1, he had to go back to Argentina. So now I am planning our wedding for next year. We are both paying for it but seeing as he is currently unemployed it is going to be pretty tight.

It is stressful but the most important thing is that you are marrying your FH and I'm sure it will be beautiful!!

I feel your pain. We are paying for our wedding and I've been unemployed for 8 months now.

Its been hard trying to budget everything. The wedding would be much easier if I could get everything I want but I've been trying to make the best of it.

The good thing is that due to this economy you can get a great deal on lots of things.

Good Luck.

I was laid off at the end of April and it stinks because I had planned on getting myFH a reallynice gift but now I can not afford it. And I was also suppose to pay for the limos and the DJ but now on top of paying for school I don't think I will be able to pay for it so I will have to ask for help.

But I am sure you will be fine. Hopefully you don't get laid off. Good Luck !!:

Hey girlie!! Sorry to hear about this...FH was laid off for a few months at the beginning of the year and it is def scary. He wasn't able to find a 'career' job but has be serving at a restaurant for a few months and is actually making good money....there is nothing wrong with just finding something while you wait for somthing more career oriented to come along...

Unfortunately, yes this happened to us...twice.

Right after we started planning I got laid off but we decided to push forward. Now we found out that FH's school district is closing a school (well we knew that) but they originally said his position was secure and now he, along with a whole school of teachers, is being excessed for next year so he's interviewing wherever he can for music teacher positions because the idea of us both being unemployed is awful.

When I got laid off it didn't really effect planning at all. But with him still not having a position for next year, it's effected us just in that we cut out a lot of extras and picked some less expensive options when we felt it wouldn't be short changing our guests.

Sorry.

If you are really desperate, try a wedding or personal loan? Good luck!!

Seems like this has been happening to alot of people but i hope you dont get laid off. FH was laid off a month before we got engaged but we are still planning- luckily we have some money saved (just would have to start from scratch with our savings after all the wedding bills) but luckily he just got a job after 4 1/2 months- got lucky.

you will be ok, and everything will work out! be optimistic and work your butt off!

I am sorry. My fiancee was out of work for a few months at the begging of the year and it was hard. We also had to adjust our finances and wedding budget because my salary got reduced. Hopefully you won't be laid off. If you are maybe you could find temp work? It's hard but things will work out.

My FH lost his job last week and we are also paying for about 90% of the wedding. It has definitely been a little harder but we are trying to get through it without it making a big impact on the wedding. I would say don't worry about it too much because you and your FH will get through it if it comes along.

Yup! FH lost his job for about 6 months during our planning process. We were a month away from postponing the wedding. Its stressful but it actually brought us closer together in the end.

Now we joke about how that experience was our trial run on how we will handle big important issues throughout our marriage.

Re: Wedding Planning...and UNEMPLOYMENT?!?!?

Sorry to hear. I was also laid off at the beginning of the year and FH and I are paying for 95% of the wedding.

Fortunately, I saw this recession coming, although I didn't realize how bad it would be, and decided to save a lot of my paycheck since I made more than FH. When I got laid off, I subletted my apartment and moved in with FH to save money. Luckily I saved enough for the wedding, but we have to cut back on a lot of extras. Also, most vendors have been really willing to negotiate in this economy.

I hope that you won't get laid off. My advice is that, if they are still trying to figure out who to let go, try to make urself as invaluable as possible so that you aren't on the chopping block. But just in case, spruce up your resume and get in touch with all your contacts so that your unemployment doesn't last long. It will all work itself out with the wedding. You may have to cut back some, but it will still be the best day of your life.

Good luck

Re: Wedding Planning...and UNEMPLOYMENT?!?!?

i was laid off in february, but have been interviewing since last summer! my parents are paying for this wedding (oct. 10th 09) but i've been thinking as badly as i want this celebration to happen, if it came to it i'd just do city hall. the most stressful thing for me has been that being out of work has overshadowed what i hoped to be a fun time in my life, planning, etc...for the rest of my life when i look back on the time before we got married, i'll be thinking about this stupid job/interview stuff. i've been really bummed out about it.

Don't worry, I am sure something will come along. Did you put a huge deposit down? If not maybe call your BM and tell him your situation and that you are thinking about canceling. Maybe they can work with you a better price.

Re: Wedding Planning...and UNEMPLOYMENT?!?!?

I am currently unemployed so I really don't know how we are going to pull this wedding off. FH is working ...paying mortgage, car notes, etc by himself. I hate this economy. \
It has hindered planning because we were supposed to get married this year and had to move it to next year. We don't want to take out a loan because we want to make sure we pay for the wedding after its done.
Sorry that you are going through this

Re: Wedding Planning...and UNEMPLOYMENT?!?!?

Sorry to hear about your situation. I hope you find something before they downsize. I believe you are entitled to 90 notice if they do restructure formally. I would start the search now and be prepared. Cut back and save. I was unemployed when we started our search and was more conservative, but really it depends on your current debt, your wedding budget, what you paid for already, and your balance due. If you have little or no debt, maybe live home or have low rent...even better. They all play a role in your question. You should know that UEB can last over a year with the initial 26 weeks and then all the extentions. The max you get is like $400 then the $25 additional. Not much. If you dont have many bills, and you are both working it, its possible. I hope it doesn't come to that, but don;t be too discouraged.
