Re: Wedding Readings

From Book of Matthew 18:20

Treat yourselves and each other with respect,
and remind yourselves often of what brought you together.
Give the highest priority to the tenderness,
gentleness and kindness that your connection deserves.
When frustration, difficulties and fear assail your relationship,
as they threaten all relationships at one time or another,
remember to focus on what is right between you,
not only the part which seems wrong.
In this way, you can ride out the storms
when clouds hide the face of the sun in your lives...
remembering that even if you lose sight of it for a moment,
the sun is still there.
And if each of you takes responsibility for the quality
of your life together,
it will be marked by abundance and delight.

From Corinthians 13:4-7

Love is patient, love is kind
Love is not jealous or boastful.
It is not arrogant or rude.
Love does not insist on its own way;
it is not irritable or resentful;
it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right.
Love bears all things, believes all things,
hopes all things, endures all things.
Love never ends.
Faith, hope, and love abide,
but of these three,
the greatest of these is love.

We're using that one too. I do like the Matthew reading above though....very nice. I wasn't thrilled with what was in the book the church gave us.

Re: Wedding Readings

Herer is my ceremony including the readings

1. Greeting and quote below

Love is the reason why this day was chosen by you both to begin your lives together and love is the reason why you both will give with all hearts for the good of each other. Love is the reason that together you will become one; one in hope; one in believing in life; one in sharing the coming years.

2. First Reading: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

What greater thing is there for two human souls than to feel that they are joined for life, to strengthen each other in all labor, to rest on each other in all sorrow, to minister to each other in all pain, to be one with each other in silent unspeakable memories at the moment of the last parting?

3. Hand Ceremony

These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day, as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow, and forever.

These are the hands that will work alongside yours, as together you build your future.

These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief fills your mind.

These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes; tears of sorrow, and tears of joy.

These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children.

These are the hands that will help you to hold your family as one.

4. Second Reading: Corinthians 1;13

Love is always patient and kind. It is never jealous.
Love is never boastful or conceited; it is never rude or selfish,
it does not take offense and is not resentful.
Love takes no pleasure in other people's faults,
but delights in the truth.
It is always ready to excuse, to trust, to hope.
It is always ready to endure whatever comes.
True love does not come to an end.

5. Exchange of Vows & Blessing of Rings

'I, _____, take you, to be my wife/husband. I promise to be true to you in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health. I will love and honor you all the days of my life.'

6. Exchange of Rings

At the rings: (Name), please take this ring as a sign of my love and fidelity.

7. Nuptial Blessing (quote below)

May God be with you and bless you;
May you see your children's children.
May you be poor in misfortune,
Rich in blessings,
May you know nothing but happiness.
From this day forward.

8. Pronouncement

9. The Kiss of Love
